Hi guys,I'm new here to this forum. So maybe I don't really understand, but, what's the point of this MEMBERS ONLY forum?Almost no-one is using it at all. Looking at the 15 page long list of threads here, 292 threads in all, only one single thread has seen any activity this year. It's the thread started by Mat - "What's eating my chickens?". I've read the posts there - very fine posts they are indeed - but I can't see, for the life of me, why that discussion should be kept away from members who have fewer than 20 posts!Other than that - NOTHING AT ALL THIS YEAR.So my suggestion is:Since this MEMBERS ONLY forum is clearly not needed by the members and not being used by members - why not get rid of it? Or, why not open it up to all and do away with the distinction between THEM and US?Cheers!

Better ask Mat he obviously felt that, where his chickens were concerned, a bit of privacy was called for. Maybe it's just to motivate people to make enough posts to get in there. You know, like the exclusive club that was really shite but you just had to see for yourself?

OK, I've got in here now. So I don't need to post any more on the open board. I can just sit back here in the luxury of the VIP Private Board and ...... get bored?Hello? ................. Hello! ............................ Emptiness .......................... Cavernous echo............................... Hello...oooo.... ooooo ..... ooooo..............?Fuck it, I'll go for a pint!

Frankly, I think you are doing ok! By that I mean you are stirring things up a bit and thereby shaking up the malaise that the site has fallen into. We could use more controversy w/o maliciousness. It is my impression that the old 20 post rule was dropped earlier this year due to a previous complaint and don't think it is of concern.Perhaps the problem is that many of us have been around for a while and fail to arise when the need requires because a new person is inquiring into a subject frequently covered before and hasn't taken time to dig into the archives. Hang around you express yourself well!

Well, if the 20-post rule has been dropped earlier this year it wasn't discussed here, only chickens have been. If you look at the main FORUM page of this website, where all the forums are listed, you'll see this:Members OnlyOnly available to members who have made at least 20 posts on the forumSo the rule seems to be still there.I will certainly hang around, thanks for your encouragement, but I have a low boredom threshold and so, don't be surprised if one day I go for a pint and don't come back!

I agree you make a good addition to the group but Alex you may have mistaken the Balipod for PornRUs as it is not really intended as entertainment but more as an organ for disseminating information about life and the enjoyment of living in Bali. If your organ isn't stimulated by this then, simply put, be more stimulating.

Agree with @markit, why bother with it?I think the forum is just like Bali in real life, some parts you may love absolutely and some just make you wonder why it exist, but that's life in every community, you don't get to rule the world when you are not the King of the universe sir

When I took over as admin, this forum section was already here. But I did set the restriction to a minimum of 20 posts. It seemed a little pointless to me to have a restricted area if you could just sign up and gain access, without making any posts. As you point out it is now rarely used, so yes perhaps there is no need for it. I don't think it would be fair to change the restriction now for the people who already posted there. The same could be said about some of the other areas of the forum that don't get many posts. I would prefer not to delete anything as I think there is a lot of good info in the archives, even if it is out of date. Perhaps the sections could be reorganized better and I am open to suggestions. Not sure though when I will get around to doing it :apologetic:

All these comments are absolutely great and just what is needed here. This little forum had almost died - but now, thanks everyone, it's come back to life a little. Let's hope it keeps going!Cheers!

I wasn't really trying to get it closed down - just trying to give this little forum a poke, a shake up, a wake up. That's all. It wasn't being used because folks had forgotten about it.Maybe now it will get a bit more attention?Cheers!

Did you think "this little forum" was sort of sitting in the corner with a single large tear running down it's apple cheeks, all on it's own dying of loneliness? :culpability:

Alex, the "Members Only" section was created in 2006, in reaction to some outspoken comments regarding a few sensitive topics. The original post from it's inauguration is here: http://balipod.com/members-only-f68/use-members-only-forum-t1695.html

OK - point taken.

In the former heydays of this forum, things were getting a bit heated between some posters. I think that's why Bert added the Members Only section in the first place. These days I hardly ever look here because of the inactivity. I also don't see much point in it now - like, are we going to see some exclusive "content" that's unavailable in the main body? Some of my current beefs:~The main landing page of the site hasn't had any new links for months.~When posts have a link (like to an image), why is it necessary to log-in?~Lately on occasions, when I try to post something, I'm told to refresh the page - not sure what that's about.(It might even happen when I post this - that's why before I try, I copy my message first and paste it back later, if necessary.):icon_twisted:

~The main landing page of the site hasn't had any new links for months.
I changed it so it shows the latest forum posts. It is impossible to remove the bottom half which I think you are talking about. Please understand I am kind of limited by the forum software (vbulletin). This is the CMS part of the product, which hasn't been updated much at all since it was first released (so lots of bugs). Vbulletin were the number one choice for forum software for many years, but sadly they have lost a lot of users and many people don't like the newest version (v5). So when it is time to upgrade I will be looking at other software. It was also discussed here a bit: http://balipod.com/read-me-1st-f36/front-page-not-updating-t9286.htmlWhen posts have a link (like to an image), why is it necessary to log-in?
Ok, changed permission for this.Lately on occasions, when I try to post something, I'm told to refresh the page - not sure what that's about.
If you start writing a post, then leave it for some time, then go back to writing it again, then this seems to happen. There is supposed to be an Auto-save, but I have also experienced this. If you write a long post and have taken breaks while writing it, well then yes, I think it is a good idea to copy and paste it into notepad or something before submitting the post just in case you lose it. I can try however to see if there is some kind of solution to this.
