An Australian journalist is facing possible deportation from Indonesia after being caught working on the Bali nine executions story while on a tourist visa. Daily Mail reporter Candace Sutton had been filing articles under an anonymous byline from Cilacap, a port town near the execution island of Nusakambangan. "It started with an information yesterday that a foreign reporter was doing journalistic activities at the Nusakambangan ferry dock," said Aditya Perdana, a spokesman for Cilacap's immigration office. "We went there to meet the person but she's gone. Then we got info where she stayed so we went there and we met her at the hotel she's staying. "We will interrogate her today. After that we will study the case to decide what to do with her." Security has been tight in Cilacap, with journalists forbidden from catching the ferry to the island. Nusakambangan is 121 square kilometres and, along with hosting seven prisons, is a popular recreational spot. Tourists can go on the island but must be supervised and return by 6pm. The restrictions follow chaotic scenes when five foreigners were executed there last month, with journalists posing as fishermen in an attempt to get on the island and film the killings. According to a very close 'source' if you write anything in Indonesia and get paid for it and do not have a KITAS, you are indeed 'working without a permit'

I love it, the channel 7 guys who filmed a story about Bob Ellis last week seem to have got away with no hassles. For those who do not remember Bob Ellis he is/was the guy who lived in Sanur and had his throat cut by his wife. Somehow these journalists convinced his son to walk along the beach looking sad and thinking about his father. They actually were here to do a story about the executions but must have thought they would slip another story in as well. This was all at a place I love to sit and drink. I pissed off before they got me in the background of their filming.

A friend of mine is secretary of a club putting on a charity show and having all sorts of trouble with immigration about bringing entertainers from Hong Kong. They initially agreed his proposal but now want loads of money.....and this is for a charity event to sponsor Bali children needing dental care. Do visiting journalists/entertainers get a special visa or work permit?

This sounds stiff. Have you perhaps had some slight negative experience with the "locals" on FB? I'll tell my wife as she seems to be running the whole thing or at least spending 26 hours a day communing with "THEM". If it wasn't for staff she would starve and Hardys have asked to use the bags under her eyes for advertising their alternative to plastic sacks.
