Been here a long time and don't really recall anyone referencing anything valid about what many of us (WHO ELSE) uses frequently for insect repellent for non-body use. In other words the sprays we all use for mosquitos etc. It comes in different fragrances (non delightful despite the label), but what the hell is in this stuff which we along with our intended victims are sucking up our nostrils? In many western countries many insecticides are banned--------what is the deal here? If you have any valid knowledge please post, otherwise let us all remain ignorant and wonder why we are having these mysterious symptoms.

I have no idea of how this will damage my skin but I have found that if I consume a minimum of 20 Bintangs a day the mosquitoes do not come near me.

I cannot understand your point Mugwump...Indonesia only restricts products that are health hazards....:icon_wink: We have our villa fogged every 10 days or so...just yesterday again...I've no idea the ingredient but sure as hell I don't return home for at least a couple of hours. So far, no mosquitoes.

Well if you don't spray you run the risk of dengue. It is also supposed to help cleaning up rubbish around your place where mosquitoes can breed.

Thanks to all that have replied. The point is that we have a variety of insect pests that we spray or use other devices to rid ourselves of their presence such as mosquito coils etc. The question is how damaging are these insecticides to ourselves breathing the fumes? Many Western companies have restrictions about the use of certain chemicals because of the injurious effects to humans, pets etc. Do we know that these same restrictions against these chemicals that are elsewhere deemed dangerous are not dangerous to us here? Plainly does Indonesia subscribe to the same chemical restrictions that we have been protected against elsewhere? This stuff is around us and we all (I guess) use them; is there a danger here we don't realize? Don't think I am paranoid or excessively protective, but what the hell is in this stuff that is so effective in killing other forms of life and what makes us think that we are immune?
