Hello guys and gals, firstly I confess to being a long-time lurker of this site. So congrats to you, as you have held my interest for so long. Last year I did ask about moving to Denpasar and, thankfully, was warned off the idea. I do still intend to retire to Sanur, having visited last year. But today, I enquire of Jayapura as I am visiting to see someone for a couple of months. That is the big question, should I be concerned about head-hunters and cannibals or have the natives now been tamed? Thankyou in advance.

Not to worry. When you get of the plane, stop at one of the several souvenir shops. They sell special guna-guna necklaces that ward off any cannibals and head-hunters within half a mile from you. I realize these necklaces are not cheap, but they work! Last time I was in Wamina, I bought and wore one all the time and I did not meet any of these horrible characters!

If you're not aware, Smoke, most Australians think Americans are very loud and full of themselves. I don't agree with the stereotype, but that's the general consensus in Australia. I was joshing with Markit and, hopefully, he sees the joke as it was intended.

Not sure about the exorcisms, but the burnings still happen. They just can't find me since the "cat lady of Kerobokan" moved.

That was the question you asked. Are you serious? Do you really believe there are cannibals running around the streets of Jayapura? I suspect most people thought your post was in jest, but this last one proves it was not. So let me put your mind at rest: there are no cannibals or head-hunters in Jayapura. If I was Indonesian/Papuan, I would have found your comment about the "natives being tamed" quite offensive.

My apologies Sam, my original post ,concerning Jayapura, backfired big time. But after researching The Land of The Morning Star and the untimely deaths of Arnold Ap, Theys Hijo Eluay, Dr Thomas Wainggai, Aristoteles Masoka, Kelly Kwalik and Mako Tabuni. It is not the Papuans I fear.
