The Bali suitcase trial started last Wednesday in a Denpaser Court and catching media attention....U.S. couple stand trial for grisly Bali suitcase murder | Reuters What is surprising is the daughter, who is accused of assisting in the murder of her mother, applied to the USA Court for her mother's estate (value US$1.6M) to pay for her trial...and a Chicago judge has agreed....Bali murder accused allowed to access funds from dead mother's estate to pay legal expenses - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) Whatever happened to the rule that a homicide heir cannot profit from the estate of a crime.....and where will that money go? Sadly I see this as great media fodder and will not leave Bali/Chicago jurisprudence looking good. OK...I know Obama comes from Chicago and was a Senator for Illinois before becoming President....but I'm sure has no relevance...:icon_rolleyes:

it seems it from her trust fund not the estate. I do believe if found guilty she would lose the inheritance part maybe even the trust fund depending on wording and laws . there is a big difference in a trust fund and an inheritance

I agree they are different. The difference is...was it a "trust fund" in her name as her lawyer says or, as indicated by the other article...."June 2011, a judge authorized von Wiese-Mack, the executor of her husband’s estate, to pay herself the remaining $500,000 as the estate’s “sole beneficiary.” Either way it is fodder for the media as the case progresses...it could also provides motive! I can see the headlines "Dead mother pays for defence of her killer....in a Bali court"

Of the 1.5 million dollars won from Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, the couple got $840,000 after attorney fees and costs. For suitcases arriving at Chicago or Miami airports murder is probably not a suitable word.....carnage, slaughtery, butchery or massacre are more appropriate....:grief:
