As you all know I just love a good cremation and I'm informed there will be a major one for some royal family member (probably the rest of him too) on or about the 14th of May. Can anyone else confirm this please? Ronb?

I believe there are two cremations in Ubud on Tuesday. The royal one is for a member of the household who was a diplomat. The tower is under construction at the moment outside the palace gates. We have been told 1pm for both but the lesser one is further down the hill headed away from the cemetery as the family is not permitted to go there because of the royal one.

Today in the forecourt of the temple almost opposite the Jazz Cafe, a very tall ramp structure has been built - the thing they use to get the body ontop of the bull. THe hieght suggest a very big bull, and hence a very important person.Further down Jl Gootama, almost opposte Warung Sari Rasa, another structure is being built. Tonight there were countless motor bikes outside this place, and inside many men in ceremonial dress seemed to be drinking. So while I know nothing of the details of these cremations, preparations are definitely underway.

I remember the last time I watch a major cremation in Ubud, I think it was the mother of the royal family in Ubud and one of her son was the regent at the moment back in 2011Interesting but lasted longer than I expected, I've been watching it eagerly from 10 AM and after 5.30 PM, I decided to abandon it and get a bite at White Box instead :topsy_turvy:

I always turn up at these things waaaaaayyyyy tooooo early too. If it supposed to start at 1pm then I imagine it will get started around 3?Nice thing about it happening in Ubud is that you can slip off for a decent meal or drink in many directions.

Agree Markit, Ubud is improving on the culinary partThe best part of major cremation is the start and the peak at the end.The starting phase where they do the parade to the temple is a sight indeed, and also the part where they move the body into the sacred animal and the last part where they burn the body, other than that I will take a walk and enjoy the gelatto and drinks in various places
