I've no idea smoke....I'm following the news like everyone else. In any accident like this ...many hypothesis and supposition is made by regular media and social media bloggers, which leads the public to speculation. If I had any [B]real[/B] evidence or knowledge I'd report to the authorities. All I try on any forum is to repudiate any incorrect statements or reports with some rational, or knowledge, reasoning. For example...many TV media (Fox and RT) keep repeating that Air Asia (Indonesia) is a Malaysian Airline and make the connection to Malaysian Airlines MH370. There is no connection...Air Asia Indonesia is majority owned by an Indonesian associate (Fersindo Nusaperkasa). The aircraft are registered in Indonesia (PK). The IATA/ICAO flight codes are Indonesian (QZ/AWQ). The crew are licensed under Indonesian Civil Aircraft rules. The Company is headquartered near Soekarno-Hatta airport (Jakarta) and the airline management is Indonesian....excepting Air Asia (Group's) CEO (Tony Fernandez). This is the kind of journalese that makes me dismayed at that profession. It wasn't a scheduled flight. SO WHAT! That doesn't say it didn't have permission to fly that flight...ridiculous choice of words. They omit to also mention that the flight was supposed to leave at 7:30am but re-timed to 5:30am....and the passengers were informed. Those same reporters should be jumping for journalist joy to report every time an airline has a late departure. 'Stop the press' I hear....:icon_e_surprised: This report is irrelevant to why the A/C crashed and just provides more speculative garbage.

Totally agree Adam.....not only safest but also the cheapest mode of transport. Try financing a cruise Perth, W. Australia to Perth, Scotland...heck try getting some change out of your super for a taxi from Hay street to Murray street....:cupcake:

Thankfully I squirreled away the pennies early and studied hard so debt free at 33 makes life a bit easier. That being said, with the cost of living here cashing in and enjoying the fruits rather than trying to maintain them is very, very tempting......

According to today's Jakpost report of the factors of Air Asia's 8051 'no weather report' and 'non-scheduled flight' has me dismayed...it is turning out to be politicised much like MH370. It should be remembered that there are many innocent people still strapped to their seats at the bottom of the Java Sea.... and many more grieving family, relatives and friends that will never be connected again. Trying to pin blame is irrelevant at this time, especially focussing of what the weather forecast or scheduling was about. It was the major issue in the Malaysian disaster and why that is still not solved.....too many responsible people passed the buck and did not focus on the reality of finding the aircraft and responsibility to passenger family members....similar to Adam Air crash near Suluwesi. Flying on a Sunday instead of say Saturday did NOT cause the crash and neither did having an up-to date weather forecast for a 2 hour flight! Those are administrative issues that can be addressed sometime in the future. The very idea that somehow the captain stole the aircraft and corrupted Air Traffic Control to give him flight clearance Surabaya-Singapore is absurd...as is the denial of future flights on that route. If anyone is corrupt then criminal action should apply but it is irrelevant to why the aircraft crashed. In my own aviation career I've flown many 14-15 hour flights Asia-Europe-N. America where the weather changed hourly. Updated weather reports are useful for decision making on routes/altitude and comfort/efficiency.... but the final decision is made in the flight deck....not by Monday morning quarterbacks. The weather forecast used at pre-flight briefing becomes redundant after take-off. Clean windows, weather radar, updated actual weather reports (not forecasts) and experience are more valuable. OK...sorry guys...my rant is over...:grumpy: back to Bali tomorrow....Lion Air!:applause:

Latest news is the Insurance Companies are paying out the compensation packages to AirAsia 8051 victims families. Apparently, the claim payed will amount to Rp1.25 Billion (US$98,000) as stipulated in Ministerial Regulations No77/2011. The non-Indonesians will get a compensation of US$175,000 as stipulated by the Montreal Convention. Indonesia declined from being a member of the 'better results' from the Montreal Convention in 1999. I imagine many comments over this seemingly arbitrary discrimination will be made......wait and see!
