Jakarta Narcotics Police arrested six suspected drug dealers over the weekend, five of whom are active police officers, and seized over 800 grams of methamphetamine and 9,700 ecstasy pills.
Head of Public Relations for the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Martinus Sitompul told reporters that the raids were conducted at various locations around South and West Jakarta and that, in addition to the five police officers, one television cameraman was also arrested.
“All of the suspects are [narcotics] dealers…we have sufficient evidence that all six are traffickers,” Sitompul told reporters Monday.
The arrested officers are attached to various police departments, with one arrested individual a high-ranking officer in the National Police Security and Intelligence Unit and another, a senior member in a narcotics unit.
Sitompul explained to reporters that he expected that although the investigation is ongoing, the arrested officers would likely be fired and could face criminal charges.
“I’m already quite sure that [the arrested officers] will be fired. Committing such a criminal offense is deplorable,” said Sitompul.
