Problem with Speedy during rainy season

We have been using Speedy for a few years now and pretty happy with their service. During rainy season however, it just stops working for no reason and sometimes during big storms the outages become more frequent. Anyone else have this problem?

No, not yet. We've only had speedy for 9 months, so that started in the wet season, and now we are becoming wet again. So far so good. :-)

Google "rain fade" to learn about this phenomena. I see it sometimes here in the states with satellite television signals.

Same here in Sanur with BIG, the signal disappears when it rains.

Dick I only noticed that once so far( was out for about 2 minutes) and family watched alot of TV other rainy day on 2 tv's

Am also having the same in West Bali, and with a new modem. The previous one tanked after six months and when returned for credit on the one year warranty (from March this year until September) was informed that the model was no longer made..........thus could not be replaced nor a credit applied toward a new purchase. So much for Smart Fren warranties! In desperation (what choice?) bought the new one with the same old weather problems. However to be honest, it is the only damned thing that works here.

Rain fade affects through the air transmissions. Speedy is ADSL over copper phone lines or for some lucky souls over fibre. So if rain is troubling Speedy it is probably water causing trouble with the connectivity over copper wires. You would expect it to also make the telephone service go bad.

It doesn't stop "for no reason". [B]Telkom Speedy[/B] is a land-line based system (unless, as [B][I]ronb[/I][/B] mentioned, you have a fibre-optic connection). It fails when a cocoanut tree takes out a phone wire somewhere in the system. Or the node connecting to your house gets flooded. Or some idiot digging something breaks it. Other people are commenting about problems with their wi-fi (radio-based) services. Antennas and satellite dishes get blown around by strong winds and can easily lose the plot. :abnormal:

Yes, same problems here at Nusa Dua...we have had Speedy for 3 yrs and every time we get lots of rain/wind/storms etc it plays up. Modem is hidup/mati/hidup/mati! Call 147, follow the prompts and they come out within 3 days. I called them on Monday and someone is coming apparently tomorrow, but they must be able to adjust something internally, from afar, as today its been much better....but still not perfect. The Speedy man normally replaces a little box thing that inserts between the modem and the wall plug.....filter maybe...and its all good again. Annoying, isn't it!

Thanks Ron, I wasn't aware it is land-line based... When I first got ASDL, I too had similar problems when water seeped into the copper lines.

Unfortunately it's mostly not in the earth but hanging somewhere up in the air (hello kites :) same with the fibre optic cable from global extreme. why digging when you just can hang in over a coconut tree :( ?
