Hi AllJust wondering where the best place to exchange Oz dollars in Kuta? We normally do it at Western Union, no fees and no rip offs

There are money changers every few metres along the street. Just avoid the ones who advertise rates that are "too good to be true".

The Bemo corner money changers office usually has a good rate.

I would recommend BMC Money Exchange. They have one office in jalan Sriwijaya, Legian (next door to Bali Mode), one nearly opposite Bintang supermarket in Seminyak and a couple of branches on jalan raya Kerobokan. The rates are good, they're honest and they don't charge commission. Money is counted in front of you and left on the counter for you to count again. Never had a problem with any of these offices.AngloINFO Bali: Foreign Exchange & Currency Transfer The AngloFILE Business Directory Bali, Indonesia

We had an attempted "rip off" 2 weeks ago in Tanjung Benoa early one morning - 3 times it was counted, then the ol', money changer counts it, and you lose a third down the slot, lucky our eyes were onto it, and he gave us our original cash back - keep on your toes peeps!!!Sadly, we have no more money to exchange now......:icon_sad: back to the ATM and the over inflated charges :(( but that another story.....

I had the same "Rip off" thing happen from a money changer. He counts the money several times in front of you so you are confident that it is the correct amount, then he taps the stack on the counter to make the stack uniform. What you don't realize is that there is a slot in the counter - each time he taps, one or more bills goes through the counter-top. Just make sure you always re-count your money when you have it in your hand before you walk away.

When ever I go to the money changer I do the following and it always works out: !) count your "old" money2) check the exchange rate3) calculate how much you should get (what else are phones for?)4) give dosh to crook5) turn your back and ignore everything they are doing6) ask him/her if they are finished7) return to "your" pile of new dosh8) pick up and count it yourself9) if correct fill pocket and go, if not give it back 10)show crook how much you should get11) repeat steps 8 - 10 until happy or take your "old" dosh and go. Every magician will tell you about misdirection and its dangers - if you aren't watching/caring anyway not much can happen - trust yourself!
