Just come back to the UK with our Bali bought mobile phones (Dell Streak & Galaxy Fit), my husband has just bought a new sim card, and he can make calls, send messages, send and receive WhatsApp but cannot receive messages or calls.Anyone know if there is a reason why we cannot continue to use our Balinese phones in the UK with UK sim cards?

They aren't really "Balinese" phones and they are probably not locked to a Balinese Network or did they only work here with one provider? You might want to try taking them to a phone shop and asking there. If they are locked to a Indo provider you will have to unlock them probably jailbreak them too. First stop: phone shop.

You need to turn off the setting built into all Balinese phones "don't bother me I am at the beach"
