Dear Phil I'm deeply offended and will now hunt you down and buy you a beer - you're gonna need it.
Not sure why your architectural drawings are being so expensive - mine for 2 different villas cost only 5 juta both times and with a 5 year break between so no perceivable inflation. The best reason to have them done here is not for the artistic abilities of the drafter, which they do have and all Balinese buildings have to incorporate some "Balinese" cultural features, but because of their connections to the various officials in the permit departments.
I'm sure someone here on the forum will be able to recommend a useful architect in your area that works for normal wages.
Use him/them.

Phil, if an architect in Perth is cheaper than someone here it means your local contacts are taking you for a ride. Find some western friends quickly and they will put you straight.
I have had 5 friends build/buy in Jimbaran and all have sold up because of the boredom of living in that area. It cost two couples their marriages.
I will make the same offer as Markit and also buy you a beer. Just as a small point I have built 6 houses in Bali in the last 2 years.
(okay that is my one serious post for this year)

Hi all
We have just purchased some land in Jimbaran and now wish to get some drawings done and then build. The problem that we have encountered at this stage is the cost of Architectural and drafting services, and the cost of the many different sub-disciplines under the umbrella of "building drawings"
We started out wanting to go local but found out very quickly that the cost is prohibitive, maybe because i am a bule, not sure. Anyway after some searching in Bali, then in Australia, we found a draftsman in Perth that will do the lot (everything with the exception of structural engineering) for a fraction of the price quoted in Bali.
Only problem is we need to know where we can obtain the Indonesia building standards and any specific building requirements for Bali.
Can anyone suggest where we can get this information for free, or alternately where we can buy the building standards/codes
Again, we would prefer to go local with the drawings but unfortunately it is a little too costly for our budget.
Lastly we hope that we have not offended anyone with this post, it certainly was not our intention.
Regards
Phil

Agree with no idea, getting an architect from Perth doesn't makes any sense, plus the architect must adjusted his work to the local culture which I could expect to be another hard task.
Get the ones who stays here already, either expat or local doesn't really matter as long as the technical skills and the price is right

A friend had complete plans drawn up for a three bedroomed villa, but then his wife didn't want to live here. He left the complete set of architectural plans/drawings with me to sell, if anyone is interested. They were all drawn up by a firm in Tangerang. Now, I know that is not the same as Bali, but better than Perth, I suggest.
If you are interested let me know and you can come here to look them over.

Mango wine party?

Not enough for you thirsty lot. I only make 20 lts at a time..... But I do have some made from Rosella (can't stand the rosella tea, but the wine.....). And more made from Frangipani flowers....... Mangosteen is bubbling nicely, and so is the red wine made from buni berries....another couple of months before they are ready for drinking.....

And the "bottling"party is when ?

Well my drawings were free from a local and good ones too! He asked to do the drawings and give me an estimate for labour costs and if I liked them both he got the job. [which he did] I am very happy with him and the progress and he has kept within budget. Same as everywhere there are good and bad. There are definite advantages with using 'local' including knowledge and influence with things like ;getting the IMB, electricity connected quickly and dealing with the water.
MikeG
Bottling?? Why bother? My 20 lt demijon sits on a sturdy coffee table, and the tube from it to my mouth makes it all very convenient. I used to have a tap on the container but found that late in the evening it had been leaking good wine onto the floor. Never seemed to happen early on in the evening. don't know why that happened! Anyway, the tube solved that little problem and nothing is spilled, even when I fall asleep. Good management, IMHO.
This morning collected a whole lot of flowers from two Frangipani trees, emoved he stems (toxic) and am now boiling the petals. They will be turned, magically, into another 20 lts of wine...... Life is good!

Basically now all you need is a large size pamper, someone to change it regularly and you never actually need to move again?

....plus if they can change the batteries in the multi-device remote and spray Baygon around as well you are 'sorted'

Now you've got me thinking....an infrequent occurrence....

Bakung for the moderately adventurous can I recommend a program that I found invaluable for building? -
Home | SketchUp
It really makes it possible to do your own 3D modelling AND when you have the build the way you want it you can export it in a format that architects can directly import into their own architecture programs.
This mean:
a) you get the build that
you want, not what your architect wants to build.
b) you save money on architects costs
c) you can walk around in the house and see it before you commit money to bricks. For instance, standing in the 2nd floor bedroom whether or not someone can see into the downstairs bathroom.
Try my architect if you want: Dewa +62 812 366 5528 He used to do a prelim drawing for free and then whine and beg you to pay him if you used it but things may have changed since he's gotten a day job with the government. If you want to try him then, as usual, tell him Mr. Mark sent you and then call me and I'll tell you how to handle the fecker to keep him kosher(ish).

Thank you Markit for the contact number, i will give him a call today and see what develops, i have just downloaded that program you suggested but i am afraid its way beyond my limits, will let you know what he says.
