Anyone have any info on driver training courses here on Bali? I'm looking to get one of the staff trained/licensed and would be interested in your experiences and how long and costs, etc. Thanks in advance.

I paid for my wife to have 'lessons' It cost 1,680,000 IDR for 80 sessions [sometimes 20 mins, sometimes 30 mins] including the licence guaranteed and paid for at the end. I must add that [mabe not so stangely] they never once used reverse, emergency stops or learnt any of the road signs. Basicly they just teach you how a car drives.

You must be joking? 80 lessons? that makes 21000 per At what stage do they estimate someone is able and fit to drive? When they stop running motorcyclists off the road completely or when it's only one per session? Is there any testing? Questions to answer? Why do I suspect I already know the answers to all this?

Many lessons only driving around the block once. No test. No need for lessons. Many just buy a licence much the same as a motor cycle licence. I wanted my wife to have a little more experiance on the road before letting her loose on my car. Pointless really as she hit a wall twice and another car once within the first month.

Probably better off without all those lessons muddling up her driving instincts.

after my wife "had" the licence she couldn't barely drive at all, specially not to the back ;-)I was her teacher, now she's (I hate to admit it) better than me

Sakums tell us she gets to drive the beamer. hahaHow about giving my staff some lessons, hell I could use a top up in the beamer too.
Markit
Thanks but I'm after car lessons.

sekolah mengemudi mobil : paid 750.000 for 20 hours, those 20 hours you can divide up as you want.
Markit
Thanks, that's better than the 11 x for 520K that I was quoted here with "Maysha"

no worries...some have strange 'rules' though, some drivingschools do the per hour rate, some do the per KM rate..
Markit
Good to know, I'll ask first. The way they drive here you'd think it was a per crash rate!

hahaha..meta (the long-island gussler) has more then once returned home without actually getting to drive, "sorry today no lessons, car is in the garage"..have taken matters in to my own hand a bit, and teaching her myself now..at least she knows now that those mirrors are not there to check if her hair/make-up is still okay ;)

Taking driving lessons in Bali is useless. Not one of the driving schools teaches traffic rules and regulations, they only teach some basics of driving a car: How to get in, how to start it, how to drive away, that's it. What else do you need? The cars they use do not have double pedal sets os if something goes wrong, the instructor just grabs the steering wheel, slams the gear it into neutral and pulls the handbrake. Ridiculous! When they finished their "driving classes" and picked up their license ( guaranteed, as a lot of the driving tuition fee goes straight into the police office !! ) the new-bee driver can drive a car with the mindset of a motorbike-driver. Nice combination :( They can't reverse a car, park backwards in line, make a turn in a narrow street, start from stand still up a hill, etc., etc.

BTW: Here in DPS you can get 4 "driving lessons" of 1 hour for Rp. 100,000,-.

At Surabaya they have a track at the police station that you drive around to get your licence, most days its worth taking your lunch & watching. The driving schools here 300,000rp for 10 hours, including reverse parking.

Market there is a place in Amlapura, Latihan Gemini , it's on the main road from the intersection with the Polisi post travelling towards Amed. On the right before the soccer field from memory. A friend got lessons there for his wife, said it was too scary teaching her himself! Not sure of cost sorry.
