That's where expats get their Lippo suction after they've been to all the other places.

Hardys, Carrefour, LotteMart for large cuts of meat, Pepitos (in Kuta for sprouts at Christmas and good German sausages), Dijon (for cranberry sauce at Christmas)

LotteMart is a vaguely chaotic place but it grows on you. Their baguettes are as good as you can get in Bali (and as cheap at 11,000 for 2). Their BBQed chickens at about 30,000 each are good. They tend to encourage large purchases and tape single items together into bundles. They have some good fruit and veg options but their bananas and tomatoes are disappointing. Their cheese selection is less interesting than other outlets

I recommend Raja Meat in Kerobokan and Sanur for all meats and pies etc. from Australia...they even have vegemite for those Aussies to whom it's compulsive eating.

Nobody seems to buy at Hypermart, weird. I prefer them above Carrefour, cleaner and fresh products much nicer. I don't really like Carrefour that much in Bali. Their fruit and veggie section is often extremly dirty. The quality isnt what i expect of my fruit and veggie products. Been in some Carrefours in Jakarta and they have much nicer products. Pepito has great products, but bit far to get and not cheap. I also like the Japanese grocerie Papaya. All prepared dishes are daily fresh made and quite nice.

Davita, where in Sanur for meat...??

I like Sanur, and you can find what you want for less than 500k per night. Be certain to tell them the length of your stay as that should get you at least 10% discount from the usual price. June is a bit tougher because you are heading into high season, but Bali is beginning to lose its luster with many tourists so it may be a better market to explore this year. If Sanur appeals please reply and I can suggest some places. Seminyak is closer to shopping. Check with Matselah, as she has a place in the neighborhood.

Curious to find out where expats buy their grocery shopping..!!Hardys....Bali Deli....Carrefour....??[/QUOTE]Sorry, a little slow on what should have been a real hot topic.I would like to mention Tiara Dewata in Denpasar for good prices on spices, housewares and competitive in the produce section. It is heavily shopped by locals and i don't see the rip off prices on things that are domestic yet perhaps favored by ex-pats the way some places gouge.

Knowing the fruit isn't packed and the rat was walking on it and eating of it in the selves, I stopped shopping there and hardly ever go again.

Having seen rats in and about restaurants numerous times and certainly on the floors in pasars their presence has usually been limited to the tops of walls or at least a bit removed from close proximity to humans. The fact that this occurred in produce where there are clerks and someone weighing customers food selections seems unusually sick.

They didn't seem very impressed or worried, it looked as it was as normal as could be. I won't buy any fruit or not seal packed stuff there for sure. If you look at the yoghurt and milk section, it isn't any better. They lost a client who used to shop there quite often.

We get fresh vegetables brought down from Bedugal every Monday morning. Sven from SPS products (back of Pepitos) delivers meat products with in 24 hours of them being ordered.I have not been in Hardys, Lotte Mart or Carrefore for years.Sanur morning market also has good fresh produce every day. My wife takes people there 2 or 3 times a week to buy the fresh produce for her cooking school.
