Would you be able to let me know what (if any) Counselling Services are available in Bali? Do expats and their families see a need for such a service?
Roy
Seriously addressing your question, the answer is yes. There are a number of groups or “clubs” organizations, etc. including AA that have regular meetings and sessions. The best way to find these groups is through the Bali Advertiser, published twice a month, and a current issue can be found in most restaurants, hotels, etc. throughout Bali. It’s free too!
As for professional counselors or psychiatrists, I don’t know of any on Bali. Likely, they are here, but somehow, and I’m not being flip, just living in Bali is great therapy...and no, I don't know of anyone who feels the need for such services or help.

swt,
I would argue yes. For the simple fact that no native English speaking counselors are present. I think it is important to be a native english speaker in this case in order to capture and understand the nuance of the language-I feel that is important for counseling.
This is very true for Jakarta. I was asked to find a psychologist who was an english speaker and the best I could do was locate a priest. However, they wanted a non-religious professional (PhD) and, to my knowledge, still havent located one.
Like Roy said, the need is here (and I would say even moreso in Jakarta).
My two cents anyway.

Thanks Roy and Jeff, I can work in Jakarta but may also be able to obtain a visa and set up an office for a service already operating in Jakarta, in Bali itself which would be my preference.

There are no "counselling services" of any worth anywhere in Indonesia. At least not free ones.
There might be a few psychologists/therapists but I guarantee you they'll cost a lot for stuff all. (Not unlike in the West). I am a retired psychologist from Australia so I think I know what I'm talking about.
With all due respect to the original poster, it's a bit like asking are there any 'honest' Immigration officials? And where are the good 'doctors' in Bali who actually know anything? Yes - there are some, but it can be a difficult process to find them.
Good luck.

couldn't agree more with Pak Roys comment....

for good and for bad it is good therapy to be here. you'll find out things about yourself either from others or yourself, the good and the bad, and you'll have the opportunity to do something about it as you come to realize this.

I suspect that even my counseling abilities might be a little challenged after the 17 years since the thread was started.
But bring the cheese anyway

I meant the thread , not you Markit as being God you do your own :)
