Fred2 wroteFriends who work in one of the top school in Surabaya recivied a shock last week. 5 officers from Jakarta immigration turn up & removed all 12 teachers to the admin office were all work document had to be produced. After 3 hours all teachers were told there document were illegal & they were to go home & the school will contact them the next day. Immigration inform the school they had 14 days to have the correct documents & fined Rp80,000,000.00 for each teacher that was employed at the school. The school contacted there agent who quickly done a runner with lots of money & some passport. My friends who have worked for the school for more then 3 years, have had to go to singapore for a new visa. So just remember when you are employing someone to be you DJ for the night, it may cost you more then you bargained for.
This story takes me back to around 1994 when I a went with a friend to an Indonesian restaurant called Safari in King St Newtown in Sydney. We got drinks and were contemplating the menu when all these guys came in and there was consternation. It was the Dept of Immigration checking the visa status of the Indonesian employees. More htan half of them were taken away, direct to detention I think, the management put up a sign saying something like "Closed due to a death in the family.". We finished our drinks - but no food was on offer.
