Dewi's period was a little strange a month ago, very short. Otherwise she seemed ok, but everyone said she looked a bit fat, and indeed her stomach looked a bit big. Yesterday early morning however, she bursted open, and allmost fainted, bleeding like hell. We rushed to the hospital (Kertha Usada, Singaraja) and an echo was made. The doctor said, "spontaneous, incomplete abortion", or "miskraam", same in Dutch. 2 years earlier she had an ovary infection, on the same side where the very short term miscarriage had partly taken place. She needed an immediate curetage, so she was taken to the operating room. On request she had narcose. After the operation she needed blood transfusion, so her father and I went to another hospital with blood from Dewi to test. She had B and I have O+, but her father was a B. While I was there I gave blood anyway. When we came back Dewi was already awake again and had 2 needles (infuus) and a tube in her. I spend the night with her in the hospital, and could take here home this morning. She is still a bit shakey, but she is getting better quickly. A small unexpected horror story. But now, what did this all cost? The total cost was 3.5 million rupiah, which included two days in the hospital at 150.000 each, fee for the specialist who examined and "operated" Dewi 795.000 Rupiah, Medicine 1.360.000 rupiah and some other stuff. The hospital was quite nice, only they had recieved a mysterious deduction from my Mastercard "Electronic" they told me, an extra of 3.7 million rupiah, I have to come back in two days to hear what has happened. And the specialist had quite an interest in the size of certain bodyparts of me, when I was not with Dewi, she told me. But this was expected, he expressed the same interest two years ago.http://www.bali-information.com/forumpics/dewi-hospital.jpg[/img]Dewi and Mums, just before going into the operating room.

Dear Bert,I'm sorry to hear this, I think Dewi will need a lot of attention now, something like this can also cause a psychological problem for a woman sometimes, so you will have to pamper her.I hope and wish you both, everything is going smooth now and that she will recover very soon.best regardsThorsten

Hi Bert glad to hear your wife is on the mend again.A few years ago, whilst holidaying in Bali, my wife had to be admitted to a Hospital in Denpassar, Kasih Ibu (think the spelling is correct), and on the way to the hospital I was dreading what it would be like - a horse stable came to mind. But once we got there I was gladly surprised that it was very clean and fairly modern.Once I had my wife settled into her room I was ushered to the reception to get "some details sorted out". The lady at reception told me it was the best room they had and handed me a piece of paper with a "price list" on it which I started to read and it seemed quite reasonable. Then abit of a commotion broke out behind the counter of which I had no idea of what was being said. Then this other lady said to me do I have a "guarantee". Still I did not know what she was talking about a "guarantee". Then she mentioned "insurance" or something to that affect and I said yes I have medical insurance and as quick as a flash the piece of paper with the "price list" on it got ripped out of my hands and replaced with another one. This time the "price list" reflected Western prices - 3 times the original price. I asked what was going on and I was advised again it was the best room they had.Luckily after five days in Hospital and the same amount of days fighting with the insurance company in Australia, they eventually coughed up the cash/"guarantee". Wife was fine by the way.
