Hi Everyone,
Would like to inform that TelkomSpeedy (ADSL) becomes
availlable in bali starting on 1 August.
There are already banners placed in bali to promote
it so I called them to check it out and they told me that
they will start selling on 1 august.
Kind Regards,
Sander

does anyone have any info regarding prices!!

Kim,
I am not sure yet. You might want to have a look at

Tommy
I checked the prices on the website and well... alright if you get the limited usage-package, but way too expensive for unlimited usage.. so.. nothing new really. Maby there will be some resonable and competetive prices for adsl in a year or three!

Tommy, did you check also the warnet packages?
2 miljoen IDR per month unlimited with free modem is not so bad.
I wonder if I can also get a warnet package or if I have to be a warnet for that. In the last case I will just write warnet on my logo outside :-)
I pay 3.25 Million per month now for a 64 Kbps wavelan connection.

 the price we pay for living in paradise I guess
Bali with a dollar income from a business abroad should make for comfortable living... or does it?
Let see...
2 children = 1400+/year for intl schooling
interent = 2500/year
+ kitas & visa renewals...
+ health insurance...
+ etc... etc...
in the end the cost of living for an average income foreign family is not that much less at all.
there goes my Bali dream home

FWIW, I called Speedy and asked about the pricing. The WARNET package (384/64 Unlimited) comes in at 3.8jt +10% VAT for roughly 4.2 jt per month. I failed to ask about the pricing for any of the other packages. Yes, service rollout starts August 1 and they are accepting 'applications' now.

everything is not that cheap in bali, we already discovered that.....especially for foreigners...every costs increase about 300% or more :(
so Sergio, you are right.....there goes the bali dream! But if you only want to spend a certain amount of time in Bali, like we will, everything is more easy and I can easily live of the money I already saved...if I don't do really crazy things of course!

Intresting Jeffrey,
I just called them again and they told me that it is not possible to subscribe yet, you can only leave your phone number then they will contact you when they start so I left my phone number.
They cannot tell me anything about prices yet. Which number did you call?
Tommy
Sander.. hmm whereabout in Denpasar do you have your w-lan connection? is it for personal use or business? if we got a clear view from your place to mine i could become your langganan gelap? :D

Balijeff,
Ok thanks. I got some bad experience with Ch.11. There service was really good, they called me if the network was down etc. but I got a 128Kbps connection in the past from them and uploading was most of the time not possible and I had to use a phone line for this. After several months they told me that there bandwith was full and that that was the reason. I decided to stop there service.
Tommy, my w-lan connection is for business use and our office is located in Ubung but also with this connection I am not fully satisfied.

Sander,
I spoke with a woman named Yeni. She told me that the rollout is August 1 and I could leave my name/address/phone number, she would call back and start the paperwork at that time. When I asked about the time delay from application receipt to actual installation, she said it depends on how busy they would be.
So, you are in fact correct. Not a real application, just on a list, sorry for the confusion I caused.
Incidentally, her number is 7425846.
This compares quite favorably with Ch.11, the ISP I was going to subscribe to...I now get more speed for less cost.... And dont even bother calling on the ISDN rates from Telkom. Even though their website lists it between 80k-800k/month...its wrong. They scrapped it and introduced something called Access Internet (or something close). Which, after some discussion, is ISDN...just with a fancy new name. And the cost? Starts at 10jt/mo.
Aren't those marketing guys clever (and pricey)!
