Bringing a dog to Bali

With the money you save get her a local dog when you get here - the locals will almost make it impossible not to. They will magically appear on your doorstep until you keep one (puppies that is not locals) and inform your staff to tell the villagers not to leave any more.. please.

Thanks. We have had the discussion about no more pets as dealing with them when travelling or leaving is too difficult for all involved. So, an adopted dog in Bali is not going to happen as far as I am concerned as we have plans to move on from Bali if plans go according to...plans.....at some stage in near future....how near depends on a few things though, so could be there in Bali for little bit long while or long bit long while. Anyway, shall make up for it some way some how.....pets are good for kids....just not moving among difficult countries.

Good decision Sam.I think all dogs should be deported or shot. Rabies is on the rise in Jembaran and who wants to worry about getting bitten at any time. To many ugly creepy mongrels giving you the evil eye as far as I'm concerned...

Sam, Congratulations on your decision, I sincerely hope it works out for the best for the dog and your daughter. A very brave decision and a good life lesson learnt. Maybe when you are in Bali you can get her involved with Sea Turtle conservation. I try to be a realist and I'm the first to admit that I'm far from being a 'greenie' but even I can't help adopting a turtle hatchling to release back to the ocean. Could be some merit in that if she has an animal itch to scratch. Regards A

Excellent idea....I have heard of this, but feared it might be just some trendy touristy thing with little real regard for the animals or their plight. Can you expand a little on its operation, where it is and how it works. Really nice idea thanks.

Hi Sam, 'Tis tru, warm fuzzy shit really, but with the odds stacked against Sea Turtles in the best of conditions, let alone Indo waters, I can't see it doing any harm and leaving a valuable imprint into the minds of the young, especially those with an affinity for the ocean as you seem to have. Gotta start somewhere. Bali Sea Turtle Society (BSTS) working with local community protect the sea turtles Kuta Beach Bali Sea Turtle Program Hope that helps. Definately something I hope I can pour some time into one day. I think you'll get a rude shock when you jump into Balinese waters.

Apparently it took them 200 years to get a living example of a sea turtle back to England because they taste so really, really good. Having had a turtle soup 30 years ago I can only report it was a memorable (but expensive) experience. Being slow and trusting and yum-yum doesn't bode well for the species now does it?

thanks shall definitely look into it. what you mean by shock and bali waters ? as for turtles, witnessed their wholesale slaughter in the torres straits along with dugong....shameful really. was stuck on an island between oz and png one time and the boys rounded up turtle eggs and prepared them.....disgusting

I agree, great idea if the dog dies naturally before we leave....but, the post was highly recommending slaughtering a little girls pet dog for the fun of it. Not something any normal human being recommends.
