I live in Jimbaran area. For 2 nights in a row now, at 8.45pm (both nights), some lightings and 3 of the 4 AC went out. The funny thing is, the AC is not totally out, when I switch on with remote, it bips and the power lights on the AC is on but NO air is coming out. Then in the morning (or maybe in the middle of the night), everything goes back to normal, anyone has any clue please? Lucky we still have 1 AC workings so the whole family bunk down in one room... Please help..PS we have been living in this house for 2 months now, this is the first time it happens. Thanks very much.

Sounds like you lost one of the 3 phases. When the missing phase is restored, the circuits on that phase come up again. The worry is your AC - if it's a small one, it is designed for single-phase operation and simply goes off if that phase drops out. But if it is designed for 2 or 3-phase operation, it gets reduced voltage during a phase outage, and this can damage the compressor motor. I would suggest switching off the 'browned-out' appliances during outages, and getting an electrician to check the phase wiring to your house.

I would think it unusual for a house A/C to be 3 phase...that is generally for commercial A/Cs. I also suggest you look at the wires entering your PLN meter...if only 2 wires you only have single phase. It is possible you didn't have a complete power failure (called a black-out) but, as borb suggests, the voltage was so reduced (called a brown-out) that the A/C compressor stopped but the indications were still live. The reason one A/C still worked is because the others automatically shut down so your voltage may have risen sufficiently to keep one A/C running.I would also agree with borb to switch A/Cs OFF until normal power is established. The fact that it happened at the same time indicates that a heavy load was applied to the same circuit you are using...like a hotel nearby or a pumping station. Check with PLN on this.I suggest you locate the main Distribution Circuit Breaker (C/B) Panel and see if it includes a voltmeter...mine does. Next time it happens check the voltage is in the green band between 200-240 VAC.If unavailable you can also buy (ACE hardware) a small voltmeter....so next time try putting it into any stop socket and check for the same voltage. If below 200VAC that is a brown-out. Report to PLN.

Thanks borb for your value info, it turned out the while area had the same problem for those few days, so it was PLN's problem.
