I have been reading about treatment of dengue fever and it seems quite a few have had success with the following:2 papaya leaves (no stems or sap)pound and squeeze with filter clothmakes about 2 tablespoonsdrink immediately (taste is very bitter)If you type in google 'papaya leaves and dengue fever' there are a few articles on this. Don't know if it works, because I don't know anyone who has dengue fever, but if I was unlucky enough to get it, I would surely try this.

I've heard of people using this as more of a preventative than anything. It's "supposed" to make your skin give off an odour the mozzies dont like if taken in large enough quantities. It's far from a gaurantee.

So, if on the 3rd day you figure out from the symptoms that it is dengue, and take the "cure", when the symptoms largely go on the 6th and 7th days, you may feel the "cure" has worked.

In the articles I read there were cases of people who were in hospital and relatives gave them the papaya juice and their platelet count improved dramatically, all documented by doctors, that is before and after readings. Also, there is a doctor in Sri Lanka who has done some clinical testing with good results so far.I am certainly no expert on dengue, but I think some people get better quicker than others. When I was visiting someone in hospital, I ran into someone's wife and she said her husband had been in hospital for 3 weeks with dengue with no sign of improvement. (I didn't know about the papaya leaves then!).I am only saying if I ended up in hospital, I would give it a try...it certainly wouldn't make you any worse.

The locals feed their livestock papaya leaves at every opportunity. Don't know if that's why - are animals sensitive to Dengue Fever?

I have been doing a bit of studying up on dengue :)This from Wikipedia "In a small proportion of cases the disease develops into the life-threatening dengue hemorrhagic fever, resulting in bleeding, low levels of blood platelets and blood plasma leakage, or into dengue shock syndrome, where dangerously low blood pressure occurs."I would presume the cases I have read about using papaya leaf juice are related to the above, rather than what you experienced Ronb, which, thankfully, seems to be most common form of Dengue fever.Markit....this from Wikipedia "Humans are the primary host of the virus, but it also circulates in nonhuman primates. They prefer to lay its eggs in artificial water containers, to live in close proximity to humans, and to feed off people rather than other vertebrates."
