Yep, you are right about the cost of living being "crazy high" in OZ. That just means that at the end of the day, we end up with little in our pockets for luxuries. I own my place here and just the council and water rates are over $2500 AUD a year. These payments are mandatory for every property.
What they call the 'minimum wage' is really the top end one can expect to earn in a semi skilled job of any sort. That is 80% of the working population. When the work stops, the money stops too. The dole right now is under $250 per week and probably about 40% of the population (pensioners, unemployed,) only get that.
I could live comfortably on 2.5 million rp a week in Bali but it is a joke here.
