One acre is actually just a bit over 4,000 square metres. This is therefore just over 40 Are.

1 are = 0.024 710 538 147 acre1 are = 100 square meter1 are = 1,076.391 041 7 square footHere's a useful link for area conversions: Online Conversion - Area ConversionNote: from my hunting around Bali, I notice that there aren't very many small plots (below 10-12 are) being offered unless they're in the mega expensive Legian/Kuta/Seminyak belt where land prices are totally outragous, but you may find something.

But it depends how you are looking.I guess what you say is right if you go to any of the new estate agents that have cropped up in the last few years catering for expats and wealthy Jakartans. But, if you speak Bahasa Indonesia, why not try this approach?Find the area you might want to buy some land in. Then drop into the nearest PPAT/Notaris's office. If you don't know, a PPAT is the Government licensed lawyer who handles the buying and selling of land in that Regency/Kabupaten. He has his finger on all the land for sale in his area and he knows all the calos (unofficial go-betweens) who can look out for land for you and take you to see what's on offer that the posh estate agents just never hear about. Traditional Balinese folk flogging land to pay debts, have a ceremony, weddding, funeral etc would never use a fancy, shiny "Western" estate agent, just the local calo. NB you don't pay the calo anything! The vendor gives him 5% for his services. All PPATs are also NOTARISs and so have two big white boards out side their offices with PPAT, their name, licence number etc. They're on most main streets in every town and easy to see if you are looking for them.Hope this helps!

Interesting idea... most comments here tend to be pretty scathing about the abilities (or otherwise) of Notaris with a couple of exceptions.

They've all gone through without problem. The last two were with the same notaris, who I found to be a pretty-intelligent, switched on guy.Just a thought, those who weren't happy with their notaris - were they fluent Bhs Indo speakers, or did they have to rely on someone else to translate, someone who maybe didn't know too much about the law, administration etc etc?If you're going to get involved in this kind of stuff you've absolutely got to speak the language and must be able to read it too, (for example, can you read and understand an AKTE JUAL BELI?) so you absolutely know what is going on all the time through the process and can jump in directly if it's not going as you think it should.Hope this helps!
