Do any of you have any personal experience shipping household items from the UK? Just a few boxes of used stuff of no particular value, other then sentimental, need to make the move over here. How tos.With whos (whom's?).How muchsAny advice greatfully accepted. Thank you in advance.

LAst year I was in a similar position (8-9 boxes of books, crockery etc, a couple of small coffee tables etc) needed shipped form UK to Singapore.The best deal I found was Pickfords, BUT (all carriers) had a minimum 20 cu ft shipment size.... they'd accept less but the price (& most reliable) was the same - about 600 Well after measuring each item & searching the internet on how to calculate cu ft I realised I was way way under that....So I went out to am antique warehouse (ie: 2nd hand furniture store) in Glasgow bought an 8ft tall mahogany bookcase & 3 feckin victorian stained glass windows {must have been thinking about building a house somewhere, lol} for about 400 the lot which brought me close to the 20cu ft.My family in the UK thought me crazy, but the sentimental items had to get shipped here anyway, they were going to charge for a minimum 20 cu ft so why not fill the space?Let me know if that's a help & I'll pm you an email contact that I dealt with at Pickfords, she was full of ideas ;)Took about 6 weeks
