Barekarma wroteHi Nick, in answer to your questions; I think many resident ex-pats here are a little over 30, but (generally) they are younger at heart than those who have remained in their own countries. Being willing and able to adapt to new cultures and experiences keeps most of us ex-pats mentally young. Meeting up? Great idea. A hint of a beer or a glass of (nice) wine will usually bring us out of the urban jungle. Seminyak is, I feel, a good place to start, but do allow for higher rents. Also, be prepared for rental agreements of minimum 6 months. Monthly rental is available, but it usually higher and that soon mounts-up. Also allow Rp 500,000 a month for motorbike rental. You will need to get around Bali. Finally, check this Forum for advice. Generally we are a nice bunch of people (with a few gripes about how the island is developing), able to give lots of advice.... been there, got the t-shirt, lost the t-shirt, and found the unexpected. Happy planning.

Thanks Barekarma, I'd be happy to commit to a 6month rental if I could find it. I'll wait until I'm there until I look too hard though and will be planning to stay at a hostel or cheap hotel until then.
Overall very excited about the idea of being somewhere new. And that worry of not meeting people or being a bit isolated int hat way is really my only kindof worry. But it sounds like people are friendly there and hopefully can make a few good freinds in the process.
Do you know anything about the Canggu club? Sounds expensive but with the gym, pool and tennis courts could be worth while and I was wondering whether many western locals go there or if it'd be a good place to meet a few friends too.
Thanks,
Nick
