I have read that there is a push by some high up pollies to allow indonesian citizens to have duel citizenship, so at least they are talking about it. Malaysia been a ex commonwealth country seem to be more switch on???

And they are setting a cracking pace too. The mixed marriage group do a great job, in 10yrs I can see Indonesian citizen having dual citizenship but not us. Retired people married to a Indonesian citizen can get a Kitas. I think you will find that tourist visa's will not get any better, be it holiday, retirement or social. The people may want tourist dollar, but the goverment dosen't want your input as to how they run the country.

I think there is pressure as seen with YKS I mean they were only dancing & the KPI complained because "erotic body movements and female participants who were scantily dressed, exposing bare skin" This is the dark ages, every pop star looks like this.

I'm not so sure Indonesia will permit dual nationality soon. All the other nations in the region (S'pore, Malaysia, Thailand) deny dual nationality. Singapore thinks about it to bring back those smart guys that left for foreign education and took other nationalities, because now, Singapore doesn't have enough qualified graduates, so offers foreigners work permits to fill the void which previous Singaporeans could fill if they returned. I read that Indonesia is also worried about 'brain drain' but, so far, have not even addressed giving ex-RI citizens a permanent visa. This was watered down in UU6/2011. The Philippine Gov't was more pragmatic. Of course many more Filipinos than Indonesians went abroad to earn a fortune and took other citizenships...principally USA. The Gov't recognised their value and permitted Dual so these Filipinos could return, with their money, and invest in the Philippines. I read this was very successful.

I fear this topic is moving dangerously toward Indonesian Politics (which my visa agent says I must not get involved in!), but the likelihood of any Jakartan Government allowing Bali to become independent (and thus keep its Revenue Income) is the same as seeing pigs fly (IMHO). However, the idea of a retirement center, with medical assistance on call, is already here. It's called Ubud. (now it is time to get off my soap-box, and trot down to the beach for a chilled beer.)

Today's 'balidiscovery internet mag' covers the story I wrote in my OP....Bali News: When I’m 64 It reports how Bali could provide accommodation and facilities for foreign retirees...yet no mention of how Immigration will facilitate a visa for those retirees to enter RI. edit for humor:.....I'm no cook...trust me...but in the above context I've heard about upside-down cake!

Agreed natwins....especially as pensionable foreigners will likely bring foreign currency into Indonesia and convert to Rp, which assists the Gov't with its Balance of Payments.

Maybe someone can put together a document that shows how much BIG MONEY is in Retirement Living. Old farts need full time doctors, clinics, podiatrists, chemists, all shorts of therapists, cleaners, gardeners, cooks, etc. Some country towns in OZ have taken this on and provide housing and services for "tree change" oldies just so they can cash in on the services and boost local employment. Chuck in a golf course and similar activities and it is money for jam. Then there would be all the rellies that will visit often..... I am sure that the lovely Balinese would be naturals when it comes to staffing semi-serviced living for those who are not too good on their pegs any more. Surely the Powers That Be will see the positive side ($$$$$) of retirement living/visas.

Joe...I wouldn't have a clue who would be in charge or to contact as it is multi-faceted...and, I doubt from all I've read, Pastika's team doesn't either. It is as if one hand of Gov't doesn't know there are others. The Bali side seem to have all their ducks in place...except, no-one seems to have talked to Immigration or Finance. How are all those lovely pensioners, having invested in this wonderful Bali life as advertised, get an appropriate visa? Apparently the only foreigners in RI, with special long-term visa privilege, are paroled convicts.

Isn't it amazing. Yes retirement in Bali is not easy. There are five people I have been told about that are key to reporting to the governor and one is my father in law. So being a Bule is in his thoughts. We live in Indonesia not Bali. I agree with all that things should change. Anyway if you want me to pass on anything to the board of retirement post here or pm me. It's indo so you know your voice is little, you are a bule.

Just point out to them that they have a very, very rich group of potential supporters that they would be stupid to ignore and that really don't want much more from them than a little visa and home ownership security.

I get your point samsiam but the challenge is a tad too late. Malaysia created its 'silver haired' program, which morphed into the MM2H, over 10 years ago. At that time Indonesia was still struggling with the dichotomy of dictatorship vv democracy. Malaysia is still a one party state.

Never to late....Bali has shitloads over maylasia....it could easily outstep Malay if they want to....but thats the key. I meant more from the 'face' angle.....could still be trumped.

I can see you are trying to help jabberwokker and it's appreciated...everything helps. Can you tell us what is this 'board of retirement'...do they have an information or web site and what is its function. I usually try to be up to date with local news but haven't heard of this board...I only heard what Pastika said to the media. If there is such a formulated board addressing retirement tourism I would have thought having a foreigner on the board would offer some credibility...our friend Markit, I'm sure, could well represent our community.

Just asking to understand it right...."We live in Indonesia not Bali" is that your father in law's thoughts/opinion ? or does he think that Bule's think that ? Besides the foreign retiree's, there is ofcourse the upperclass Indonesian retiree's... But if one were interested to set-up retirement-homes/ serviced villa's for foreign retiree's, that is certainly not very difficult.

All I’ve been told is there is a committee of five that are formulating the ideas/planning overview for it. I will find out more information.

My Indonesian family only think 100% of Indonesia as a united country and Bali happens to be the place they live. Their view on Bule’s is high. They respect people from different countries and realise there are good and bad. They think we are wrong to drink so much and we are strange with certain habits, like putting milk in tea.
