I would like to get a range of original leather handbags and wallets made in Bali and Import them back to New Zealand. I'm looking for high quality manufacturers. If you know of any could you please pass on the details. I've so far heard of Momo, 2ndskinonline & Lisa's. Does anyone know of these and if they are any good? Thanks

Thsnk you for that contact, I'll look into it.

Why not simply use the EMS system via the Post Office. Five days international delivery with tracking. We've been sending clothing and such items worldwide for the past three years and never had one go missing yet. The plus side is that it's a shed load cheaper than FEDEX or DHL.Cheers,Mark.
Hi mark,Thanks for that information, that's really helpful. Can you send quite large parcels this way? I guess doing it that way do you avoid duty costs etc? Thanks Rebecca

I'd support Gil's comment:- I'm just back from Bangkok, and much as I'd like to support industry in Bali, overall Bangkok it is cheaper, overall quality, variety & product range is probably better - partly because they have a much larger industry lower material costs & more globalised sense of market. This also applies to Jakarta, which, like Bangkok has to be cheaper.I guess it depends on the volume you plan to buy & ship if the distance (and cost of airticket) from NZ is a factor but if you're fedexing, dhl, ems etc - the delivery time will probably be the same probably shorter since packages are 1st sent to their hub - which I believe is in Jakarta & then forwarded on.

yeah when I read "a range of" I was thinking more then just a couple of kilo's worth of leather.Hence my advice source it in bangkok.

Yea Gil, I can't see there being much profit in shipping a range of leather bags by DHL/fedex/ems to NZ - BTW: Import duty would still have to be paid, you'd have to fill out a customs deceleration. If it were a small-scale operation: Fly to Bali with empty suitcase, fill it up & fly home there would probably be some profit that would part-pay for the holiday .... About 25 years ago a French lady friend used to visit me in Singapore, she'd pop over to Bali for a few weeks & come back with a suitcase full of batik bikinis (in the days when Batik was a rare sight in Europe & they cost less than $2.50 each in Bali). She'd return home & set up her suitcase on the beach at Cannes & sell the lot in about 4 days at $25 - paying for the whole trip with some spare cash for her Uni fees. But that wasn't a "business" Now, without knowing more about the business venture, I'd wouldn't jump to classify Rebecca like this.... but .....I've seen countless posts from people who have a "business idea" and are looking for manufacturers of clothing, textiles, leather (& remember the major plastic recycling project?) .... etc etc... I'm astonished by the number of people determined to make it work in the location they want to be in or have recently vacationed in (ie Bali)... rather than research the location/source that makes most sense (Surabaya, Jakarta, Bangkok, VietNam etc)I DO understand those who relocate to Bali, and then have a business idea about something they see that could be sold 'back home', or something that they could start-up in Bali - and believe have the magic sauce and they could do it much better than the existing competition (think bar, restaurant) - because that's where they want to live... but let's face it, Bali isn't exactly the major manufacturing & exporting center of SE Asia. But, then again, maybe I'm just getting old & cynical !

I am also looking for a handbag manufacturer, hopefully in Bali - if not, in somewhere in Java. These would be a mix ofleather/fabric bags for export to California. If you read this post and know of a reliable small-medium size factory, pleasereply. I am also trying to locate Iwan, whom I worked with a few years ago but have lost his email address....Thanks~
