According to Susi in a post on Facebook dated 10 August, she no longer has a nominee arrangement for her home.
Susi Johnston: we took legal steps to end the nominee arrangement in 2005, and convert our rights on our home to hak pakai which is entirely legal for foreigners. we had nominee arrangement only from 1999 to 2005.
glad we switched in 2005 once we knew what the laws were, in order to comply fully with them. sadly, the ex-nominee, it seems found herself in grave debt with the "dark side" . . . and i suppose this whole fiasco is a "grasping at straws" story of someone going down for the third time.
it seems cruel and unfair, however, to unleash mafia and thugs on me, after i'd just spent two years struggling against cancer, the cancer won, and my husband died of cancer, here in our house. then this. i guess some people are not people. they're something else altogether.
btw, for those who may be curious, this person who was a nominee from 1999 to 2005, is the daughter of an important academic. she was raised and educated in germany. she was the wife of our dear friend, aulia sofyan, who we regarded as a brother. he divorced her in about 2002 having caught her out pregnant from a young european fellow, while she had three infants of her own at home. it's very sad. she walked with approximately $1 million dollars in the divorce settlement.
that evidently disappeared fast in europe, heaven knows how, and she dropped a baby there, who is now about 13 (girl). she returned to indonesia leaving the daughter somewhere in europe.
bankruptcy proceedings against her in indonesia ensued and she lost her business and other assets here in that, and (obviously) was black-listed for credit and loans.
she again vanished in europe can called in desperation from a "hospital" in germany, with a multi-thousand-euro bill for an "illness" that was never made clear. that was enough.
we read an article about hak pakai and did it. she (again) released all rights and the certificates went straight to the land office for conversion to hak pakai. phew!
any reasonable person would have thought that was the end of it. but no. greed and self-obsession, apparently, know no boundaries or limits. or are we looking at a fried mind here? i don't know and don't care to. simply standing for the rights guaranteed to me by the Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia, for the benefit of all Indonesians and all foreign residents and visitors here now and in future.
if there is one person who refuses to negotiate with terrorists, or corruptors (which is not much different), it does make a significant difference for others who come along afterwards.
my conscience prevents me from profiting mafias, thugs, extortionists, corruptors and others like them. to feed them ill-gotten profits encourages and finances them to do more, and worse, to others, and also inspires imitators to copycat them and set up on their own in the "badness-for-cash" business. i would feel responsible for untold numbers of future victims. that's not something i can do.
