Since many of us come from different parts of the globe and most have some interest in the Olympic Games it would be interesting to get impressions we might have had from the Opening Ceremonies. Anyone have a comment?:ambivalence:

At an estimated 27 million expense I find it perverse to spend that kind of money on an event given the current global financial crisis. There are many charities that could benefit from donations from such a pool of cash rather than splashing out to promote an event that started out as a good natured staging of competitions between friends. Personally I feel that society has lost any vision of unity and compassion and replaced that with a very real and destructive avarice that pervades every aspect of our species existence these days.[/QUOTE] C'mon really express yourself!

Have not seen the opening ceremonie, was it as bad as the opening ceremony of the world cup soccer? 27 million..that's all? for an event broad-casted worldwide, I am sure revenue's from advertisements would well make up for money spend.not to mention how much tourists it brings and tourists bring $.

With millions starving around the world, it's nothing less than criminal to spend this amount of money on a sporting event. :icon_evil:

I was in Beijing for the last Olympics and it was quite an experience. Initially I thought it would be good for China and Chinese people by the end I realized the only purpose it served was to bolster the communist government. I have turned on ESPN today and have only seen badminton :apathy:

This was all paid for out our [the British public's] taxes and I believe all the revenue from advertising will return to the government coffers and hopefully filter back to the economy. As it is the olympic park was built in a very run down area of London and the facilitys left will generate income and provide some excellent sporting amenities for years to come. The opening ceremony was full of history and humour and an amazing spectacle.Although I have to agree the initial ammount of money spent on a 'fun' event is obscene in the face of poverty, I do think it is not all bad. I won't be watching much of it. [maybe the vollyball & boxing].

The Olympics are a total joke, I recently read they won't be allowing anyone in to watch the events with branded logo's on their clothing, unless of course its the brands that are sponsoring the Olympics (adidas, coca-cola etc). Anyone seen with a Nike logo or Pepsi Logo on their T-Shirts will be turned away regardless, it was mentioned Nike sneakers wouldn't be allowed either.
