I have recently found what I believe is a great deal for a 1 br bungalow in Kuta. I have tried to do as much research as I can about Bali, and would like to know as much as I can before I get up and go.
I am very mentally ready for a sudden move, and would really just like to know a few simple things.
1. Do I need malaria/other shots before I come?
2. The lease is longer than 6 months, what type of visa should I try to obtain / can you even stay that long?
3. Are people with dreadlocks looked down upon within the culture? Will immigration hassle, or possibly unallow entry to a dread head?
4. I would really like to experience every aspect of Bali and its people, how heavy is localism? I show nothing but respect.
5. I'm making the trip to surf. I've seen beautiful scenes, so I'm wondering...what's the easiest source(s) of transportation to use to visit the interesting sights/beaches in Bali? How easy is it to obtain vehicle(s)? ( I've dealt with terrible traffic)
6. What is the nearest airport to Kuta in which I can fly into?
7. How easy is it to visit surrounding islands?
Any basics you may think I should know, or any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to answer whichever questions you'd like.
Thank you in advance.

In answer to your questions:
1. I don't think malaria is a problem in Bali, but it is still best to make an appointment with your doctor before you leave and discuss what vaccinations you might need.
2. What will you be doing here in Bali? If just a long holiday you can get a 60 day tourist visa and then maybe look at other options like the social visa. If you want to work, you will need a working visa and of course a job.
3. No idea.
4. Not sure exactly what you are asking about here.
5. Many surfers ride bikes with a surfboard rack on the side.
6. The airport is right near Kuta beach.
7. Pretty easy, either by ferry or flying.

Hi Justice, I'm with Spicyayam on this one...a couple of added pointers though:
1. Definitely seek your own medical practitioner's advice about what shots to have. I've personally never had any shots to travel to Bali but I do warn you to beware of mosquito bites. Always wear repellant because Dengue Fever is also a possibility in Bali. Having had this in Townsville a number of years ago, I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy...and it only takes one bite from the right type of mozzie to contract it and if you contract the wrong strain it can be fatal. Take precaution and you'll be fine.
6. The international airport in Bali is the Ngurah Rai airport (often called Denpasar and the airport code is DPS). The airport is really in Tuban, that's about 12km from Denpasar and about 3km from Kuta beach. Would suggest you check out a map of Bali to orientate yourself.
Have fun...

Sorry but the price it is higher than 25.000, 40.000 fix price from the kiosk.
If you arrive at night even up to 60/70, maybe you can get a lower price if you know how to barter.
Also Blue Bird do not operate from the airport, unless they have starting doing so in the past 2 weeks.

Hi, Justice.
Bob M is a cult figure here and many people have "dreads", so no prob culturally. You may get a little extra attention at customs because of the perceived link with the "weed".
Tourists are welcome here and you will find the locals very friendly. [no probs there] Great culture to soak up. But remember these are poor people and you, in their eyes, are very rich. So your money will be a big attraction. Take care, not so many thieves but loads of scams. You will notice that when you arrive, bag carriers, taxi's at the airport etc... You should expect to pay no more than 25,000 IDR to get to Kuta. Best get a cab with a meter! [Blue bird taxi's best]. Best bet is get a tourist visa for 2 months and then talk to a visa agent when you are here. You will easily get a sponser for a six month stay. But you have to leave the country to get it. [a day trip to singapore, via air asia is the preferred option]. You can get a work visa which lasts a few years, but this works out more expensive. as palms will need to be greased if you don't have a real job. Transport no problem cars and bikes cheap to rent. Might be worth getting an international licence for the south of the island as the police can be keen to check tourists because of the usual reasons [they can pay larger fines for infringements] Best of luck.

To be honest I don’t remember if the prices for night time are on the board.
When I arrived at night usually everything it’s closed and the taxi drivers are outside. You deal with them directly and this is the reason (I think) why the price it’s not the same if the kiosk was open maybe and only maybe they would keep the same charges.
Having saying all this it could be already history since here nothing is for sure forever

Sometimes people ask me if there is taxi service at the airport 24 hours and I never have an answer, anybody knows until what time the fix price kiosk at the airport is open?
Lumumba, I never think about as well if the price change during the night, I know you can see the prices on the wall at the kiosk but are there as well the prices for the night or suppose to be the same price as long the kiosk is open?? there is a fix price as well for the night or is the same price?

The art is to grab one that is dropping some one off at the airport.
