Telephone Calls

Hello everyone, I have been coming on here for a few days as I am currently thinking about going to live in Bali. Thank goodness websitees like this exist to make things so much easier and give people a place to ask questions and seek advice. So my question relates to phone calls. Do most houses have phones and is there access to cheap phone cards for making international phone calls? Thanks Lily

Another option, which is what we do.... I sms the person I want to call in Australia and ask them to phone me (costs me a few cents), then they call me using a phone card in Australia, which costs about 8c per minute to my home phone in Indonesia. Which for Indonesia is pretty cheap - the regular rate in Aust to call Indonesia via telecom is over $1 per minute. FG (temporarily stuck in Australia)

Dunno about the phonecards.... But, yes houses do have telephones where you can make international calls...

Thanks for that reply Bert. I really appreciate it. Hopefully someone else will be able to answer the question about the phone cards. Is it expensive to make international phone calls from a home phone? How comparable is it to other places? Thanks Lily

There are many possiblities, Internet Calling with your PC is cheap, but not reliable as far as I know... Look here: http://www.expat.or.id/sponsors/javazbu ... calls.html I cannot find the normal prices for Telkom, but they offer International Calling in different variants. 001 as prefix 008 as prefix 017 as prefix, this is VOIP as far as I know.... We have found the cheapest($3 USDper hr. for me/free for Mudi) thing for us is the web. I rent internet time w/ webcam @ a nice internet cafe here in Eugene,OR called Indra's. Mudi works at a PC and we can then chat. and she can then see me also. My HP was only $0.63/ minute to call ID when I lived in Wisconsin. I have not been able to find as low a rate(by far) here yet. I ask her not to call me unless needed because of the high cost to her.
