I'm writing to thank you for your efforts in bringing your (Bule) customers competitive prices despite your staff apparently cleaning every now and again, and an absence of rotten meat smell later in the day. In a commercial environment where so many local businesses attempt to exploit foreigners in some way, it's refreshing to see management taking a stance and trading ethically. However, following a recent purchase, I did notice something strange that I feel worth mentioning. Though your deli prices appear to be in line with those of other supermarkets around Bali, there is some sort of localised gravity well underneath the supermarket that causes your scales to misweigh/misprice your goods (see attached pics). Such phenomena are common enough in this part of the world, but still raise an eyebrow when they add 60-70% to the reported weight of an item, and occur in such an established business as yours. I assume upon receipt of this letter, you and your customer service team will closely scrutinize this gravity well and its effects, and implement an action plan of some sort, so that your shoppers are not mislead in the future. There you go alex...making mockery of my applied science. Obviously meat was NOT extracted during the process because Coco only employ honest staff! I racked my brains to my school physics and I now know why gravity affected caravan's purchase. We live in Bali which is in the Southern Hemisphere...items lose their gravitational 'pull' here...and that's also why I feel so lightheaded. Eureka and Quod Erat Demonstradum. I'm tired now...think I'll lie down...nope I'm going to drink another glass of Hatten's finest vintage...and contemplate what other scientific fact I can massacre.:highly_amused:

No need for the fancy scales. Just take the packaged product and put it on their own shop scales. Then take a litre of water and put it on the shop scales. Very rare all 3 match up.I particularly luvvvvvvvv doing this at jimbaran when I go for a night meal. Wait until its mega crowded, make your transaction (after bargaining for a fair price), and then just before you leave and the next customer is getting ready to "weigh in", drop your 1L water on the scales. Always weighs in at about 1.15kg. Ive been screamed at for doing this - called bangsat, provocateur , bulu busuk, the list goes on. There is one drawback - you don't want to eat at that restaurant that night - guaranteed gollies in your grouper. They are one step ahead now - they just weight up the product before putting it on the scales (a variety of means - none you want to hear about). I have done this with the water bottle and found it to be spot on also.

Rather than blanket-blank on Coco let us discuss Pepito This afternoon my wife shopped in the above Pepito in Kerobokan...she noted they had hot-dogs ready for sale. Being an accomplished cook she decided we might enjoy her version of some fancy bule food for dinner. Loosely translated she asked the butcher.."Pak... what sausage do you use for your hot-dogs?" The Balinese butcher...perplexed...retorted "Ibu...we are Pepito..we do NOT make sausage for or from angin...try around the corner!!!"

[/QUOTE] I agree there are things at Coco in Ubud that stand out positively compared to other supermarkets. BUT:each time i am at the bread department i have a discussion with the staff.They have a completely equipped kitchen to bake all kinds of bread and pastries,but they persist in selling three days old bread.The labeltagger that was there in the beginning seems to have been lost,so there is no date on the bread any more,or the name of the kind of bread. I have asked them why they only sell fresh bread after one o clock in the afternoon.The answer was that they start at eight only.My story that fresh bread in the morning would surely increase their turnover did make no impression.Nor did they get the idea of baking at night to have fresh bread and rolls in the morning. All this is of course not the fault of the staff,but of the management.They invest a fortune in the equipment,but then fail to follow it up with good management.A real pity,as they have tasty bread.
