Having just brought a pooch the other way - please ask yourself if it is really , really worth the trouble and money to bring your dog to Europe - if you feel that deeply for dog pay half the money to me and I will promise to treat him like a king for the rest of his natural life here on Bali.
Anyone care for a sate party? You bring the beer and I'll supply sate.
QuestionMark
:)
For 50m I'd probably agree but I'm confident I'll pay much less in the end. Right now I'm at 17m plus 200eur via Jakarta which already is another ballpark. Still not cheap but not sate party territory anymore
QuestionMark
Well I stand corrected then, since I've been there by far the most often, North Sumatra is basically the non - bali indonesia for me and I drew my conclusions about the whole of indonesia too fast.
davita
QuestionMark wroteThe thing is, whole indonesia is considered rabies infested. For that reason it makes sense to restrict flow of animals INTO bali as bali is "almost rabies free". It makes n sense whatsoever to restrict the animal outflow though: rest of indonesia is presumably infected worse and other countries don't differ between different regions of indonesia at all - it's all considered highest risk zone and treated accordingly (which wouldn't be a big problem, just get vaccination and blood tests).
Oh well
According to Jakarta Post 8 Oct 2012...quote
"Only Bangka Belitung, Central Java, East Java, Jakarta and Yogyakarta were free of the disease, Health Ministry vector-borne disease control director Rita Kusriastuti said in Yogyakarta recently at the annual meeting of the Asian Rabies Expert Bureau (AREB).
The provinces with the highest incidence of rabies were Bali, East Nusa Tenggara, North Sumatra and North Sulawesi."

Ok QuestionMark, will PM you. Thanks!

Sorry, I need to accumulate 3 posts before I can use PM function here. So this is my 3rd. Thanks!

Why is there a problem with taking the dog to Jakarta? It was only a problem for us bringing the pooch here because Bali has an import stop due to it's ongoing attempts to achieve Rabies free certification - Java hasn't got a hope of that happening.
Please can you give some cost details too?
QuestionMark
See davita's post #23, I was thinking the same as you, went to the custom office in the airport and they confirmed it (with condolences since they thought it means we'll leave our dog here).
As for costs I'm not 100 pct certain since we booked other stuff as well, I have to look it up and will post it with the outcome etc next month. Ballpark $1k to $1.5k for the transport to Jakarta, could have gotten it a bit cheaper with other agents.

Hello QuestionMark
How is your planning coming along for the move with your doggie?
I will be moving back to Singapore end of this year with my husband & doggie, and have started to research online for the process, and came across your thread.
Hope you can share your experience with me.
Right now, my biggest worry for my dog is the journey from Bali to Jakarta by car. When she arrived here the last time via that route, she lost weight and seemed very distressed. Really don't want to put her through the same nightmare again. I was thinking of renting a car & driver and drive through the journey with her. I wonder how possible is that?
Anyway, please share your experience with me. I am also wondering who is able to draw blood here in Bali for the Rabies serology test. Sunset vet referred me to Groovy Pet.
Many thanks in advance!

Nice to read that you've gone through with your plans of bringing your dog with you to germany.
just one question, why does it take 4-5 weeks ?
QuestionMark
The reason is we're actually not moving to Germany anymore, don't even know yet which to which country haha.
So she's staying at canggu pet resort while we're looking for a place to stay (Amsterdam or Vienna most likely) and once we've found it she will fly to Amsterdam and we'll pick her up.
Not easy to be apart for so long but better than dragging her across Europe while apartment hunting.
QuestionMark
Hi there,
we are still here on Bali but actually leaving in two days and just brought he to her boarding place. She will be going via car to Jakarta but not with Groovy - the alternative we use is a little bit pricier but we believe it's safer (in terms of getting busted by the police) and more relaxed as well - the drive will take around 3 days with stop- / sleep overs instead of one big rush.
Drawing blood can be done at Sunset Vet and they can send the sample to groovy or other agents for testing - it went fine for us but please keep in mind it can take quite some time for the results to arrive, about 8 weeks for us. It also makes sense to give another rabies vaccination before drawing blood in order to maximize the chances to pass the test - as it takes so long to be validated, a negative result could put a big dent into your travel plans otherwise!
One final tip, make sure to read Singapore's laws regarding the test carefully for timing regulations, for example for Europe the blood can only be drawn at least one month after the initial rabies vaccination (and vaccinations prior to chipping don't count!) but the dog also can only enter (given the test is positive) 3 months after the blood was drawn or later.
You can send me a private message if you want the contact details of the agents we use etc, given the sensitive nature of this I don't think we should post about it in the open.
I will also do a more detailed write - up once we see her again, should be in 4-5 weeks :icon_e_sad:
ETA:
About driving yourselves - it's technically possible of course but I personally wouldn't risk it. If they catch you they will either kill your dog or maybe demand a bribe that's higher than what you'd have paid an agent in the first place.

alright...well, Amsterdam is a wonderfull city to live :D (being an Amsterdammer, not really an objective opinion).
Markit
If it's so "wonderful" why aint you livun thar then pardner?
gilbert de jong
with my lifestyle there, I would never have made it to 40..wich I hope to become this year overhere :)
Markit
That's grand and we would all love to help you celebrate it.
Can't wait for the invite. Only have one real question - will there be a well aged Gouda there?
Oh, and is the ICE Tea Princess really getting younger?
JoNat
Hi QuestionMark: how did this story transpire? Do tell please.
We will be leaving with our dog in about 6 months.
Can you let us know: did you get any further insight as to whether it really is so bad taking a dog out of Bali to Java? It#s only 4 km on the ferry. I would think a 200,000RP pocket money for any curious police would suffice, which is much cheaper than 1.7millRP. Or not?
We would of course have the paperwork done.
We are debating whether we take the agency for 1.5mill door to door or meet them in Jakarta.
Please advise based on how your experience transpired.
Thanks!
gilbert de jong
an agency for 1.5jt? I seriously doubt you can find an agency that will transport your dog from Bali to Jakarta for that amount of rupiah's.
I know Questionmark has written that is what it costed him, but personally don't see a reason why Bali-JKT should be cheaper then JKT-Bali...3 weeks ago a German 'friend' of mine bought two rottweilers near Bandung and had them brought to his house on Bali, costs 12jt. I paid 8jt for one dog from JKT-Bali, that was 7 years ago and including an import-permit.
As for the pocketmoney 200K rupiahs, if caught he/they will ask a whole lot more...wouldn't you pay a whole lot more for your furry family-member? Know what I mean?
JoNat
Sorry, it's 4.5mill from Bali to Jakarta, 1.5mill if we bring him to jakarta.
So , it is definitely illegal to bring a dog from Bali to Java?
And yes, i would pay more.... of course I would.
gilbert de jong
hai JoNat, yeah the 4.5jt sounds a bit more in the ballpark. About the other option, the paying 1.5jt and bringing him yourself to Jakarta, what do you get/what do they do for that 1.5jt?
Yeah it's legally also not allowed to bring a dog from Bali to Java. I want to add, although it is from my experience and that can ofcourse differ from anyone elses experiences, I found the check (STNK+ID) when leaving Bali tougher then when entering Bali..and I have never been checked on the Jawa-side.
I figured you would pay more, thus imho when you decide to do it yourself...make really sure that the dog is not visible from any angle, and before leaving from home to the ferry take the dog for a long-long-long walk, so he did his nr1&2 and he is tired and goes to sleep in the car.
