Hi Jean...
I just wrote my own experience... I nearly lost my glasses a few years ago in Alas Kedaton, a monkey took it!! My friends told me that I have to buy peanuts and give it to that monkey (barter, lol). So, I follow their advice. I got my glasses!!

Seems like in the imigration office...

Hi Iris
Back from the Nord ? I hope everything was fine 8) You were lucky that your glasses did not fit to this monkey eyesight, otherwise you wouldn't have seen them again

Iris
Welcome back to this forum. The bahasa forum has been quite sleepy lately... Can you access to your email from where you are ? I will be back on work on thursday and you won't be able to join me unless you phone after 8 PM. And we leave to the country for the week-end. So I was thinking to drop our telephone number in the country and my telephone number at work in your email box. Will you go via Paris ? It would be great to meet you and Olivier :)

Sorry Iris, but I am not sure it is a good idea. Let me tell you this story. This was in 1980 (I feel like a veteran of the last world war when I write things like that). I went to Sangeh Monkey Forest with two friends of mine. One of them absolutely wanted to buy some peanuts to give to the monkeys. After a while, he had no more peanuts to give, and the monkeys got a bit agressive. We managed to get rid of them and went to sit somewhere. Suddenly, one of the monkeys jumped from a tree on my friend shoulders, all teeth outside, looking quite nasty. We thought not to move was the safest reaction. The monkey search our friends pockets and managed to take a bag that he wore under his shirt and where he kept his travellers check and passeport. We didn't move, afraid that the little devil would disappear into the trees, with its booty. The monkey shaked the bag, went through the passeport, checked everything, and only once it was sure that there were no more peanuts anywhere, it ran back into the trees. Since then I never gave any peanut to any monkey

Hi Jean...
I can acces internet from my "beaux parents" house. But in this time I am a bit "perdu de la tete" lol.
Yes, we will go to Paris and stay there for a night, we will go by CDG. Sure you can send email to my box.. I'll be waiting..
rhondo
With Security the way it is these days they request you dont lock your bags and often if you do you will find the locks broken as Airlines often tell you "do not lock your bags". In the end we are all dependant on one another and cannot cover all our bases.
Tracey
Rhondo,
In OZ there is no such rule...
Roy
Nor is there such baloney in Asia either. It's just an "American" thing, big brother and all.
Question!
How can anyone live like that?
Not to get into any kind of political discussion, as Bert will kick my ass off this forum, but just think about this....
In almost seven years of living on Bali, and being an American who is fully aware of the Constitution...why is it that I feel more free living here? :?
A rhetorical question, to be sure, as I know why.
Tracey
Most people leaving OZ these days are having their entire bags locked & then plastic wrapped up over & over with tape etc to ensure no dodgy business is going by our baggage handlers!!!
So I guess travelling to USA those bags would be in trouble?
Luckily I never plan to venture there!
Roy
Good post Rhondo. I had dinner last night at Nuri's Warung with several retired US guys...IBM and Ford, etc. For three of them, it was their first time ever abroad, and they each expressed sincere regrets that they waited so long in their lives to get "out there" and explore the world around them.
As with you, I can only smile when I hear of the fear of Americans traveling abroad. It's truly sad, and as you point out, it's particularly sad how very few Americans have ever traveled outside of the US.

:) Roy lets face it if they want to get into your luggage and break those cheesy little locks they will but if it makes people feel more secure whatever. The bottom line is we are all interdependant upon each other even when we dont realize it. When we travel we are so dependant on others, that we may never even see, to do their jobs in an honest manner. When more people are dishonest than honest we have trouble in this small world...look familiar. :?: It would be a better question to ask while all these security issues are happening in the US does it just offer an illusion of security with, in fact, a completly different agenda going on. Instilling fear in people, only 10% of which have ever been out of the US, and have zenophobic beliefs that they are right and others should not be trusted. When I tell people I was in Indonesia or Thailand they often respond that they are afraid to leave the saftey of the United States so I would say the illusion is working quite well. Hopefully they will not forget to turn on their TV's so they know what to think next. Globally it is foolish to behave in the same way over and over and expect different results despite the fact we are all bound together here on the same planet. Perhaps the herds are just too large and that partially explains some of the idiotic behavior we see.
