one question before your questions : If you have a sosbud visa why do you want KITAS? if the main reason is saving money for the visa renewal, the cost of setting up a PT (plus flying your dad in) is quite high don't you think? Not to mention for the wages of the staff in your PT, you can't have a PT with only you as staff right?

There is a multi-entry Sosbud visa available. I used one for a couple of years prior to obtaining a Retirement visa. It lasts a year and permits multi-entry-exit but the downside is it only permits a maximum stay for 60 days. I once flew to KL from JKT in the morning, bought a litre of vodka at KLLCT, and returned to JKT in the afternoon. This might satisfy your requirement till you sort out the PT for work purpose.

oh wow that sounds perfect actually. Being "required" to leave every 60 days is no biggie at all for me. I haven't found any info about this anywhere yet but will look for it specifically now (and report here for other's reference). I actually have a good relationship with the consulate in my home country and will check with them.

I have heard of problems where a foreigner got a work visa from a company their agent set up, which they actually had no connection to. One solution would be to actually start a company in your area of interest and employ a couple of people with an office. But of course that has its problems like having to manage your employees, spend at least some time in an office etc etc.

Hi, I've read a lot of threads here and on livinginindonesiaforum but haven't found an answer to my specific questions yet. I'm interested in staying here in Bali for a couple of years. Right now I'm on a SosBud. - I have my own company for which I work strictly through the internet, doesn't have anything to do with Indonesia(ns). - I'm not an Indonesian citizen but my father is, he is not living in Indonesia either though - I'm under 55 years old, not married to an Indonesian, don't plan to - I have trusted family here on Bali as well I'm interested in obtaining a KITAS and think I can establish a company here that sponsors me. Since I'm able to come up with Indonesians I can fully trust, the cheaper option of founding a majority Indonesian owned company should be best right? (it's called pt?) - I'm happy to pay myself a reasonable salary and reasonable income tax on that as well So my questions are: - Does the company actually have to do anything? Or can it be for example a company looking to buy/lease houses to rent them out, but never finding suitable houses to buy/lease in the first place? - can the Indonesian majority share holder live outside of Indonesia? (I would fly him in for contract signings etc if needed) that's it for now, I'm sure I will have more questions later on but those depend on the answers to the two above :) Thanks for any help, Mark

I know people are doing this for years but I'd hate to pay for a villa upfront and not being let into the country again lol [*]after being a world nomad for some time I want to settle down a bit and play by the rules as much as possible [*]I have a bit of money saved up and might actually want to start a business here some way down the line, so can't hurt to have a company already I guess [/LIST] and yes, that would have been one of my next questions, can I be the only employee of the PT? The min wage here isn't very high but still I don't need any employees yet obviously.

I read you actually applied for it in Jakarta, would I have to do the same? Or can I have the German embassy sort it out for me (which they probably would if they can)?

The application for a multi-entry visa is made to the head Immigation Office in Jakarta. Once approved, the authorisation is telexed to the Indonesia Embassy/Consul in the country of your choice for them to stamp in your passport with which you can enter RI.

Not quite correct. The reason given for an application for a multi-entry Sosbud visa is distinctly different to the application for a multi-entry Business visa....although I agree with Mugwump....the result is the same, so.....whatever works! I would add that both those visas need to be authorized from Jakarta, then telexed to the overseas Indonesian Embassy/Consul of the applicants choice for pick-up. The overseas Embassy/Consul cannot unilaterally issue the multi-entry as they can the single.
