For me, as Ubud develops, there are interesting new options like the Readers and Writers Festival, TEDx Ubud, a Spirit Festival and more. The first 2 of these interest me, the third is not my cup of tea, but no problem. Some find that settling among rice fields 20-30 minutes drive from central Ubud provides the quiet life yet stays within easy reach of the activities.
For me, the Readers and Writers Festival, TEDx Ubud and Spirit Festival has nothing to do with Ubud or Bali. Are organized by foreigners, for foreigners and with foreigners speakers or teachers and probably of course very business oriented it, only probably.
I would be more interested in
Topeng Festival
Wayang Kulit Festival
Painters Festival
Balinese Food Festival
Balinese Dance Festival
Gong Festival
Gamelan Festival
Handicrafts Festival
Kamasan Handicraft Festival
Bamboo Festival
Songket, sarong, batik Festival, clothes Festival
Batuan Style Painting Festival
Offerings Festival
Balinese music Festival
Lontar Festival
Local products from each Kabupaten Festival (I love to see this on the Bali Art Festival in Denpasar each year, very very interesting in my opinion!!!)
Bali is full of arts, culture, dances, music, handicrafts, there is art everywhere and it seems like foreigners or tourists are less and less interested about what really Bali is about or at least what Bali is about for me!!!!!
