Travellling around East and North Bali

Well, you're gonna have to have a couple of guys walking in front to cut down the jungle with machetes so plan on only doing about 2 miles a day. Once you get into the lowlands below Kintimani you need to watch out for dinosaurs from that stupid failed theme park. Other than that it will probably be plain sailing if you get past the head-hunters around Ubud.

Hello we are recently retired and are thinking of going to Lovina.(I haven't been there since the mid 1970s.) We want to get away from Legian and Seminyak for a change.( we stayed there in 1999 and 2002 ).We want to stop off at a few places on the way.I was thinking of going from Legian to would either Penelokan or Kintamani or Bedugal for a night/day.Then going onto Lovina and coming back via Amed and Candidasa.We would do this over a 14-18 day period.Basically we want to swim, see the sights and relax. I was thinking about hiring different drivers to get from town to town.My questions are :1.what do you think of this route?2.How long would you spend at each place?3.Is it just a matter of hiring a driver for each different part of the journey? If you have any other suggestions we would appreciate them. Cheers

No problem, I live near Lovina every time I go south I stop off at Bedugal [after all it's on route]. Munduk is les than an hour from lovina as well. You can go from almost anywhere to another part of the Island in 4 hours or so. Probably drive round the whole thing with a few stop offs in one day.

Tuckerbox, why not try hiring a car and driving yourself? This will give you a lot more flexibility with plans. If you have not driven here before I would suggest going anti clockwise around the place. Head up to Padang Bai and then Candi Dasa for three or four days. There are some good hotels and darn fine restaurants in Candi Dasa. Have a beer with Gary at the Hamburger Shop. He is good for a laugh. Shirl at Temple Cafe is also an interesting character. The Watergarden is a great place Water Garden Hotel Then head around the coast road to Amed. I have a mate who lives in that area, drop in and see him BRAND NEW IN BALI! Villa Holiday Rental East Coast Splendid Luxury Villa Candi Dasa Bali. He always loves a chat. Amed also has a few decent places to eat and nice places to stay for a while. Go visit Patrick at Sails Restaurant. Restaurant Amed Bali | Sails Restaurant Amed By then you will be more confident with the driving. Head along the coast to Lovina where you can have a few beers with Mat or Gil. You could also go have a beer with Dave at Dolphin Apartments Rick or Waza can also be found wandering the streets. That's right, NO IDEA, you have! Or maybe you English is not your first language, ergo your comprehension of the English written words. Tuckerbox hasn't been in Bali since the mid 70s and you don't have a better suggestion to ruin his holiday. But maybe you know the guy and you hold a grudge against him?
