Looking for an Ethical Clothing Manufacturing Factory in Bali

I'm a consultant for a baby products and baby wear label from Australia. We are hoping to move the business to Bali for its manufacturing. As the business is all about eco-friendly and ethical we are hoping to find a factory in Bali that reflects this.. If anyone knows of a good ethical factory in Bali could you please pass on the details. Also, I have heard that there is a community factory set up in the North of Bali helping orphaned/homeless teenagers by teaching them a skill in sewing and then giving them employment in the factory to help them get a skill and have money. I am trying to track this factory down but have had no luck so if anyone has any leads on this it would be great!! Thanks :)

I do know of a Frau German manufacturer who uses a type of home-worker system here in the East where by she delivers the material, patterns and tools to the various homes of her "employees" and then comes by a week later (or her helper) to pickup and pay for the piece work. She was very complimentary about the quality and system and said it was great for taking up the seasonal and model fluctuations in her part of the clothing trade, which was fashion accessories like jackets and such like. Sorry but I don't have her name anymore as we met on flight to Singapore. Maybe if she's reading this she will get in touch?

Not being cynical here, but serious questions: What volume do you need? Why Bali? You say "[I]We are hoping to move the business to Bali for its manufacturing.[/I]" There are many other threads (pardon the pun) about Bali's lack of: an industrial-base/quality/reliability etc + a few from those who have shut down their clothing businesses to focus on other ventures - Bali isn't known for its manufacturing - more like cottage industry - I bet Markit's Frau German manufacturer's home-worker system took a long long very long time to build up (contacts & trust) and even longer to supervise QC. So if the volumes are reasonably high the home-workers may have difficulty meeting deadlines & ultimately loose the contract which from an ethical perspective would be creating a promise of income, which they will most probably borrow-forward on, and then taking it away, leading to more debt. Which long-term isn't very ethical. Then there's the material supply; where would it be coming from? Inside Indonesia, from Australia, or elsewhere? So for higher volume look at Surabaya or even VietNam or Bangkok. Truly, I don't want to rain on you're parade but have you sourced product from overseas before?

Hi, I have worked in China 2 years for a company manufacturing, have done maybe 8 trips to Bali... 3 of which was for manufacturing and I have many friends already manufacturing in Bali.... Bali was top of list for my client because its cheap to get to for her and close and is is a place she is considering to move to if it works out!! We are still looking at other countries for manufacturing also as we are wanting to find a good factory to work from and if its not in Bali then its not in Bali but we still want to see what we can find first!! I understand all the struggles of manufacturing in Bali and I have already advised my client of how it all works but its still something she wants to consider.. I have put the word out everywhere whilst we are still in research stages to see what we find and where we find it!! Also, we are not looking at higher volumes which is also an appeal with manufacturing in bali.... Thanks for your thoughts!!!

Im sorry but i dont mean to be rude , im representing a local clothing manufacturer on Bali Indonesia and we already had some experiences with organic clothing ( we had friend who producing organic dye for us its made from leaves and roots of the various local plant ) and we've had a few client too who simply use our organic approach as their marketing purpose If there is any chance we could work together please contact me via PM

You need to be cautious of people claiming to use organic fabrics and dyes. Ask to see the certificate and then trace the source. My friend has been using this ethical manufacturer below from Bali for a number of years.
