OK, so after years of dreaming I have actually done it and the family are coming to Bali for 6-7 months as of June. Now I'm reading about changes to visa rules etc etc. Having to go and hang out in SIngapore for indeterminate time frames etc. I also think I have misunderstood the social visa process from the beginning. I had thought you could make your initial social visa application while still in Indo but then had to leave for a new visa once you had used up your extensions. But I think I am now understanding that the initial application would need to be made from Singapore or the like? Is that right? So after 60 days we will need to pack up the kids and head off. That's ok. We can do that. BUT what is really concerning me is whether the process can still basically be done from Bali (via an agent) and then you fly out get the relevant stamps and fly straight back. That's also fine. Flying to Singpore with 3 kids and having to stay for god knows how long is not ok! Markit, anyone can you help??

You've got time to arrange this. Contact my agent (whom I fully recommend) while you are still overseas and she will walk you through the whole process and offer alternatives for you. Her name is Asri and the company is Bali Expatriate Services [B]in Jl. Nakula[/B]. Don't confuse her company with another "Bali Expatriate Services" which is based in Kuta and has opportunistically been using her company name. That person is not associated with her and has caused much confusion for people who have tried to find Asri's long-established business. Asri's number is 081 735 6688 (if calling from Bali) or +6281 735 6688 (if calling from overseas)> Email is [email]baliexpatriateservices@yahoo.com[/email] Another alternative is to come here on a standard VOA which gives you a month (plus another month extension if you wish) to get the lie of the land here before you do a visa run to implement a longer-term solution.

What he said! Visa on arrival is your family's best option only if will stay longer than 6 months since you will need to apply for the Social visa with the whole Brady Bunch in Singapore. Use an agent. If you only want to stay maximum 6 months then I would get the social visa from Indo embassy from your home country. You will need a sponsor letter from a "friend" here in Indo first - sounds hard but isn't. Gouda please, you too Borborigmus?

Thank you thank you! We think we will stay 6-8 months. We have to be back in Australia by mid January. I hadn't given any thought to getting the social visa before we left but that sounds like it could be a good way to go about it. Then if we do come back end of November we don't need to worry about visa run at all. If we do want to stay beyond the 6 months we could go to Singapore and just come back in on a VOA and extend if necessary? Would definitely be one less thing to worry about if it was all sorted out before we arrive. Borborigmus, I've emailed your agent so hopefully it will all become clear soon! K

A third of that (scotch) I can go along with - chocolate addiction means you must be a girly but the TTM leaves me confused and baffled. Since scotch is very, very manly and choco very, very girly the TTM seems to be the big decider. Maybe you are a ladyboy and TTM is your game plan for the future (Testical, Testical, Mammaries)? I'm at a stretch here so some help would be nice.

Hehe! Chocolate isn't girly - well not much anyway. I don't have it often coz I find it ruins my lipstick ;-) TTM = Teman Tapi Mesra - loosely translated, it means non-permanent girlfriend, or if you prefer the crass term, 'friends with benefits' ...
