An investigation is being carried out into the robbery of an ATM complex at Tiara Gatsu on Gatot Subroto Street in Kerobokan. A police team is currently investigating the crime scene and interrogating three security guards who are suspects, with the initials IMR, T, and MYB. Footage from seven CCTV cameras, one from each ATM in the complex, are also being inspected.
Badung Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner I Komang Suartana, explained on Sunday that the case involved the burglary of three ATM machines, owned by Bank Danamon, Bank Permata, and Bank BCA, leading to losses of Rp 1 billion. “We have secured footage from seven CCTVs to be examined further,” Suartana said.
So far, the footage reviewed shows that before the robbery, the perpetrators apparently shut down the primary CCTV camera. Moreover, the lights at the site were turned off so that the remaining CCTV footage was dark and blurry. This has limited the evidence available to investigators at this stage. The perpetrators burglarized the ATMs’ cash boxes by breaking in with welding torches, severely damaging the machines.
The three security guards being questioned stated that they were unaware that a burglary had taken place. One had called in sick during the robbery, while the other two were on duty.
Suartana argued that the security guards would notice if the lights in the ATM complex were turned off and welding was being carried out. The burglary was only reported the next morning, when the machines were found to be badly damaged.
