I don't know about Ubud or Lovina but in Kerobokan we refill our 19 litre bottle regularly. We have 2 places within walking distance.Just look for signs saying "AIR ISI ULANG". Usually Rp3.000 for a refill.
Mat, I guess the most of us living in Bali refill our water but I just wonder why we cannot see more places for people visiting Bali do it. I just came back from five days in Gili Meno and there was refill water in many places, we refilled our bottles the total 5 days, 18 small bottles in total and I love the idea and felt proud not to buy and trough plastic everyday!!!!Sometimes I hate to be surrounded with so much plastic everywhere!! especially bottle plastic and bags from the supermarket...........hahahaha I love to see the old Balinese woman coming from the market with this big basket on their head!!!I have a problem, I hate to trough away things!!!!!!!!!ok ok, I think I should have to start to bring my own bags to the supermarket!!! I will do it today!!! YES!!!

They call the bottles 'gallon' although they are clearly much more.
Well if the Americans think a gallon is around 3.8 litre, and the Brits think about 4.5 litre, there is no harm if the Indonesians think 19 litre.

lol love you guys, i'm sitting here with my cuppa laughing my head off... sorry but i just have a funny image in my head of all of yous
I'm finding this funny as well, as for the life of me I cannot work out how the OP only just realized that burning of plastic was a problem, didn't he see that the first day he arrived in Bali and got the hell out of here? And didn't he just destroy his own lungs by riding a bicycle around Bali?I'm not mocking his beliefs just not sure if this how this can be groundbreaking news unless you lived in a bubble, which of course would not be very good according the article as the bubble would have stale air??

lionel24
And WHY a balinese litre could not be 750ml, uh?

We're thankful we can leave. All the best. - AB in Bali (for seven more days) Singapore and Santa Barbara, California. andrewbaker77dotcom
Have I got this right? This guy is so concerned about his kids' health that he's taking them away from Bali to the USA - a country which has 5% of the World's population but has 50% of the World's guns.Have a glance at this:Time to face facts on gun control ? Global Public Square - CNN.com Blogs[I]"The U.S has three gun homicides per 100,000 people. We hunt more game! But in truth you can't just blast off with statistics unless you know the validity of them and a breakdown of where and how the guns are used. This discussion could end in vitriolic political malice and I for one don't want to go there. It is too intense and complicated as our debates in the US Congress have shown and will resolve nothing in this humble forum

.............where and how the guns are used..............
"The U.S has three gun homicides per 100,000 people. That's four times as many as Switzerland, ten times as many as India, 20 times as many as Australia and England."The USA has hugely more guns per head of the population than any other nation. You correctly point out that there may be a perfectly acceptable and logical reason for this - for example, hunting. But, if the guns were only used for hunting then the rate of gun homicides would be the same as any other nation - shootings would happen, but no more than in other nations.Unfortunately that is not the case. The USA has 20 times more gun deaths per head of the population than UK and Oz.If guns are lying around the house they will get used. In arguments - by criminals - by little children who just find them and pull the trigger without having any idea of what they are doing - by crazed folk who go to schools or colleges and massacre students and teachers - and so on and so on.Here you can read about school shootings in the USA, with links to newspaper reports to check the details, if you like:List of school shootings in the United States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia6 this year so far. No school shootings in Bali.

How else can they be interpreted? It just means the gun lobby is stronger than the will of the majority of the american people. They (the gun lobby) are (mis)using that part of the american constitution for their own economic gain, and piss on what the majority want. Same as those muslim fundamentalists are mis-interpreting their holy book to suit their own purposes. They sound very much the same.Who is calling the kettle black?:topsy_turvy:

All you that harp on about the American gun culture don't understand the problem even a little bit. I would change the motto of America from "Land of the Free" to "Land of the Fear". Americans are told from their earliest moments that they live in paradise and that everyone "out there" (wherever that is?) will do anything to take it away from them. They are told to:Fear the religion next doorFear the continent next doorFear the country next door Fear the man next doorIf in the process of creating this world of fear 3 in 100,000 are killed with the masses of guns that are sold as the answer to the fear, then who cares? The powers that be live in very secure places, send their children to secure schools (many in the UK) and last but not least can afford to be guarded by their own little armies of gun thugs. And Bali is supposed to be dangerous? HA HA HA

Have a look at this set of photos taken at a recent National Rifle Association Convention in Houston, Texas in May this year. They are all members of the NRA and I am sure they are all decent law-abiding folk owning guns legally. Nothing wrong at all.http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/picturegalleries/worldnews/10039732/National-Rifle-Association-members-at-the-NRA-Convention-in-Houston-Texas.html?frame=2555186There are 15 photos in the set - just click on the numbers 1 to 15 to see them all one by one. Make sure you read the caption under each photo to learn about the person concerned.I find myself particularly taken by number 4. A very fine young man who apparently joined the NRA when he was just one year old. Now at the age of 12 it appears that he owns 4 guns.

Don't want to start blabbering about other places outside Bali but I would comment on Bali instead. At the moment I choose Bali as "the place to love and live".Bali is not perfect and they have a lot of "interesting" factors that could make you gone bananas :miserable:But it also has the great climate, beautiful environment and an interesting mix of locals and expats eager to mingle and open for sharing their live experience and brainstorming about everything from tiny matters to the essential things. I learned new things everyday and even considering learning another foreign language this year.Bottom line is, I'm sorry the OP think Bali is not as comfortable as I would have felt, but I wouldn't be surprised if he and his family comeback to Bali in the future:icon_biggrin:
Yeamyeam
Bali is not as bad as China!!!

Boy that sets the bar pretty low though. Nothing is as bad as China - feck, China makes Afghanistan look liberal.

Not to worry, the US government is well into the process of eviscerating the fourth amendment to the Constitution (right to privacy and prohibiting unreasonable searches and seizures), so it should only be a matter of time before they do the same with the second amendment (right to bear arms).
