As Davita says, half of the posts are talking about retirement KITAS and the other about spouse-sponsored. As long as you are talking about spouse sponsored, then yes the price for KITAP is about 3 million if you do it yourself. It is a bit of running around, but nothing complicated. The important thing is to deliver the documents yourself rather than relying on the internal immigration mail system. And then since the renewal is free, then it definitely does seem worth the initial hassle.

Thank you Atlantis that was very informative... for my wife lol. There was a lot of bahasa and I still struggle to read a menu though I am trying. She did seem overwhelmed by it though and thinks it looks too hard. I am sure we will figure it out though.

I have often blamed agents for their general incompetence, lazyness to learn about regulations and for actively encouraging corruption but rarely for a supposed greedyness. There is a thumb of rule in any immigration office in the archipelago which is implemented by most immigration officers when they deal with agents: "you make money, then you are gonna have to share it with me, and since the decision rely on me and that I can delay you and mess up your relation with your client, my share has to be (by far) the bigger one". When you pay IDR 36.000.000 for a KITAP while the total PNBP (the legal fee as per Peraturan Pemerintah nomor 38 tahun 2009) for it is only IDR 3.055.000, don't be misleaded in thinking that your agent is making a huge profit. It ain't true. I know a few pejabat whose living standard us far above what their monthly salary is. I know very few agents with an equivalent living standard. They make money but those who make more money are those with the uniforms and they are not ready to let their privileges melting and the racket being questioned. I have never dealt with an agent and wouldn't be able (nor willing) to advise you anyone, but I would be surprise to hear a "cheap" quote. Organising a conversion of an ITAS in an ITAP is no big deal. It is time consuming but it is definively not a nightmare. I suppose that this forum has a few threads detailing the step by step procedure to do so. If not, take a look at this thread: Conversion of an ITAS sponsored by an Indonesian spouse in an ITAP. UU 6/2011 It has been written two years ago, but it is still up-to-date and accurate.

A correction/precision. Following a question which has been asked to me in another forum concerning extension of KITAP, let me add this: An extension of a KITAP which has been been issued for an unlimited period is free. However there is a little trick here in the way it has been written. Article 59 UU 6/2011 (1) Izin Tinggal Tetap diberikan untuk jangka waktu 5 (lima) tahun dan dapat diperpanjang untuk waktu yang tidak terbatas sepanjang izinnya tidak dibatalkan. (2) Pemegang Izin Tinggal Tetap untuk jangka waktu yang tidak terbatas sebagaimana dimaksud pada ayat (1) wajib melapor ke Kantor Imigrasi setiap 5 (lima) tahun dan tidak dikenai biaya. If you would be translating it, it would mean: (1) A permanent residency permit is issued for a period of 5 years and can be extended for an unlimited period as long as the permit hasn't been cancelled. (2) A permanent residency permit holder for an unlimited period as described in paragraph (1) must report to his immigration office every five years and is not subject to a fee. This stipulation concerns ALL KITAP holders, working foreign experts, foreign clergymen, retired foreigners, foreigners married to a WNI...etc. When the Immigration Act has been enacted in May 2011 all the medias and officials were insisting on the fact that permanent resident would be exempted of renewal fee. I even remember Pak Patrialis Akbar, the then Minister of Justice and Human Rights, insisting on TV about it. Poor chap, his advisors forgot to tell him that it was slightly more tricky. As always, the devil is in the details and if one reads carefully the bahasa indonesia version, one will quickly get that it can be interpreted otherwise... and it is what PP 31/2013 has confirmed (surprise! surprise!) in April 2013. KITAP is issued for a validity of 5 years at a cost of IDR 3.000.000 (excluding biometrik pics -IDR 55.000- and as per PP 38/2009 which is the statute valid as per today, July 5th, 2013). KITAP is then extended for an unlimited period at the cost of IDR 2.000.000 (fee as per PP 38/2009 and valid as per today, July 5th, 2013) with the obligation of reporting every five years with no fee charged. So, in my post #39 above, I was not factually true and was guilty of lacking of precision. This is only after that the "unlimited KITAP" is issued (ie: your first extension) that subsequent reporting to keep it valid are free. The above reasoning has been confirmed by PP 31/2013: Pasal 155 (1) Izin Tinggal Tetap diberikan untuk waktu 5 (lima) tahun. (2) Izin Tinggal Tetap sebagaimana dimaksud pada ayat (1) dapat diberikan perpanjangan untuk jangka waktu tidak terbatas dengan ketentuan sepanjang Izin Tinggalnya tidak dibatalkan. Pasal 156 (1) Orang Asing pemegang Izin Tinggal Tetap yang telah melakukan perpanjangan sebagaimana dimaksud dalam Pasal 155 ayat (2) wajib melapor ke Kantor Imigrasi yang wilayah kerjanya meliputi tempat tinggal Orang Asing setiap 5 (lima) tahun. (2) Ketentuan lebih lanjut mengenai tata cara melapor bagi Orang Asing pemegang Izin Tinggal Tetap sebagaimana dimaksud pada ayat (1) diatur dengan Peraturan Menteri. It clearly shows that the unlimited validity version of the KITAP is the one with "free extensions". In other words, this is the "report every 5 years" which is free and NOT the first extension which is the one allowing the "unlimited validity KITAP". Hope it clarifies the situation concerning KITAP extension. If you have any questions, please fire them.

Sorry, I don't know where you are supposed to go in JKT. I did try Googling for the address, but the location still wasn't clear. I am planning to apply for the KITAP soon also, so I will be interested to know how you get on.

Ok so the office you need to go to is on HR. Rasuna Said Kav 6-7, Kuningan. We were originally told Kav 8-9 by Denpasar immigration which was wrong. Below is a google map of the address. You'll need to go to Gd Direktorat Jenderal, Imigrasi, Lantai 5 (5th floor). http://goo.gl/maps/5IKSj I would suggest you stay somewhere very close to the office as the traffic is ridiculous, preferably walking distance. Remember to bring long pants and a collared T-Shirt as they won't let you in otherwise (I found out the hard way.) We were told the process takes a minimum 10 working days to a maximum 15 working days to complete. We were also told if we wanted them to mail it to Immigration in Bali it can take a few months as their courier only delivers when they have a certain amount of mail. If you're not wanting to stay in Jakarta while the letter is being processed you could • Fly home and come back later. • Fly home and have someone pick it up for you ( this requires a letter signed by you and the person picking it up + materai ) • Head up to Bandung for a holiday ( highly suggested ) What may also be a possibility is that you could send your documents to Jakarta before you leave, then contact them to see if the letter is ready before heading over and picking it up. I'm not sure if this is possible but it would save you a lot of time and money. Also note that Jakarta is a dirty shit hole of a place, pollution, traffic, rubbish everywhere. I was there less than 24 hours and I got food poisoning. If you're planing to stay while the process is taking place head up to Bandung, its a lot cleaner, less traffic, great weather and clothing is more than half price.

Sorry hear, apposed to here, same, same, but different! if I hear, go home,,,,,it is the most depressing subject, I have travelled a lot & am not surprised that expats in Indo (Bali), are the biggest wingers...I have now lived here for 8 months, yes the rose coloured glasses are somewhat shattered, but I guess the most surprising thing is how many people winge...and complain....ok they fucked up the roads, too many motorbikes doing the wrong thing, seriously, go back to your structured lives somewhere else - did we move here to be different? D we like the hustle & bustle? I personally have started driving here in a silver APV, love that there are so many of us on the road, I don't have a little golden ticket on my number plate that says "rental", but I can cut & weave like the rest of them.....I am also a woman, building a home here, you think the boys like it, I don't think so.....but I will....continue to work hard, I pay the funding, if you don't like it - deal with me, screw me & it's probably over, smile & you might have a chance!!

ok folks,, just realised that was a bit harsh, apologies all round, I don't get out much, thank god, I didn't attend the get together....could have been ugly, or interesting, take your pick...so I will retreat back to my native village & burn some more, i wish I could do more, situation....no pick up of anything!!! It hurst, only 2 more months when we have control of our refuge.......

Thanks for sharing this. Very much appreciated. Knowing exactly where to go is half the battle. I could probably arrange for someone to pick it up, as hanging around in Jakarta for 2 weeks doesn't sound like much fun.

Sorry I should have been a little clearer on the letter you need to give to the person picking it up. Its called a Surat Kuasa, only you need to sign it and you'll need a Materai and a copy of their KTP. So on the Surat Kuasa you just need to write "I blah blah give permission to blah blah to pick up my documents from Gd Direktorat Jenderal, Imigrasi, Lantai 5". Maybe write their KTP number on there as well.

My KITAP just came through now. Thanks for everyone's input into this thread. I think the whole process might have taken around 3 months. It perhaps took a little extra time because of the new year's holiday. Had family submit and pick up the documents in Jakarta which made it fairly easy. Overall a fairly smooth process, even after pretty much failing the interview.

So "Wepro" what did you pay? As regular fee is 3.1jta tho I read it has been increased to 3.5jta MAX and not to pay any more than that....!!?? I am in same position, all done & approved BUT price seems inflated and IF you dont know I am assuming 'they' can ask??????

So will you stay with the same agent? If so she/he should be able to advise. If, on the other hand, you plan to switch to a new agent, this proposed new agent could advise. Let us know the outcome.
