Yes you are correct. Many homes have a lower limit like 1500 or 4400 watt or whatever. So imported heating appliances have higher consumptions and can at times cause the whole house to turn off. Locally purchased irons, electric kettles, even aircons - have lower consumptions, less oomph, so take longer to get to ironing temp, longer to boil water, and cannot lower the room temp by so much.
With your 2400 watt appliance, just give a bit of thought to when you use it - if the aircons are all on and the swimming pool pump is running, then turning on the iron may bring it all to a stop.
