Visa agent in Darwin

Hi, Does anyone know of a visa agent in Darwin? I want to get a Sos Bud visa but want to go to Darwin instead of Singapore. Thanks

Hi penyu and welcome as I see this is your first post. A simple search tells me there is an RI Consul in Darwin...surprise! Indonesia Consulate , Australia 20, Harry Chan Avenue Darwin Northern Territory 0801 Australia Phone: +61-8-8943-0200 Fax: +61-8-894-12709 Email: kridrw@indoconsdarwin.org.au Website URL: Konsulat RI Darwin A Sosbud doesn't actually require an agent...it is DIY so long as you have a sponsor in the area you wish to reside in Indonesia..i.e. If you want to stay in Bali the sponsor must be from Bali etc. If you do not know any one in Indonesia that can sponsor.....there are agents here in Indonesia that, for a fee, will sponsor.

Hi Davita, Thanks for reply. I realise what you say is true, as I have applied for many Sosbud visas in the past. However, I have noticed they are getting more and more painful with the applications, e.g. on my last app, they said "oh no, we can't approve that you need ticket to your home state...new rule" After asking about details of the new rule, they just kept saying "new rule", when I asked what date this "new rule" came in ......they just said "new rule". I said I had applied for many visas and never had any problem and would like to see this "new rule".....to which the reply was "new rule, new rule new rule"......arrrrrggghhhh. Consequently, I did get the visa on the day I departed after having waited 4 hours in the waiting area and managed to make my flight with 10 mins to spare. So, the reason I want to use an agent, is I can't be bothered with all the hassles and waiting around etc etc and some argumentative person who keeps telling me about "new rule" of which none could be proven or explained. I have used Ishmael in Singapore on several occasions and found the service to be great and was hoping I could find someone similar in Darwin.

Ok Penyu...you clearly know the system and I cannot help further with Darwin...I also used Ishmael in S'pore and agree with your comment. There is no new rule...the latest UU2011 is still not implemented and I'm not sure it even refers to Sosbuds.....it's more about mix marriage policy and well discussed on the 'other' Indonesian expat forum.

Not all that many people go to Darwin for Sosbud, so it would not surprise me if there are no agents operating there. I went there with a friend who was doing Sosbud about 3 years ago. At that time it was easy but took 3 days. But Darwin is an OK place to stay - we stayed a few days in Fannie Bay, then took a budget priced campervan for a few days.

I should be going there on Friday to pick up some documents, I will ask what you have to do for a sosbud visa & how long it takes.

Hi Fred2, Thanks for that....I know what to do, having done it before....but have not done in Darwin before and ronb, thanks for reply also. I am planning to be there a few days, so looks like I will have probably do it myself. Cheers

To get the visa in Darwin will take a minimum of 3 days. Of course it can be done quicker but the norm is 3 days.
