I have a bunch of old Black Adder VHSs. The guy is indeed very funny, he and Baldrick. PS. Englishmen are silly BY DEFINITION.

Closing the loop on this thread, which I started three years ago. We just returned to Canada after living in Bali for two years. Our son - who is severely allergic to peanut - had only one incident with peanut (that we know of): Our son ordered a slice of chocolate cake at Anomali cafe in Seminyak. After getting explicit assurance from the server that the cake had no peanut, our son bit into the slice, and immediately after swallowing knew something was wrong. We looked at the inside of the slice and saw the bits of peanut. After some panic, we decided to take him home and just monitor his condition. He had severe stomach cramps and vomiting, but no anaphylaxis (swelling of the throat). Then the symptoms disappeared. Given that no restaurant kitchens in Bali are "nut-free", we're convinced our son had more than one exposure to various nuts - including peanut - but he didn't have any life-threatening reaction. We've read one theory that might explain why he had no reactions - that nuts, including peanut, are typically processed differently in Asia than in the West. We think that's why he didn't experience anaphylaxis in Bali, despite (probable) multiple exposures to nuts. So it turned out well.

You and your son got lucky. Most will not if they depend upon the knowledge of ill-paid, ill-trained and possibly non-English speaking junior waiting staff to protect their lives or those of their loved ones.
