Faster Internet Connection

We're all looking for a higher internet connection and I just ran across a recommendation for Onspeed. But I'm not sure whether the recommendation is biased or not. Does anyone have any idea whether Onspeed would work to speed up downloads? ONSPEED - The Alternative To Broadband, Speed Up Your Internet Access Without Hassle and keep your existing ISP

Interesting Pollyanna, the everything-in-one solution, the holy grail, might really exist? Thanks for sharing...wonder how it works though, if you have a river it'd make sense that a ricefarmer who builds a dam, then shed most of the water to his own ricefields gets of course more water than his neighbors. But what all of his neighbors want to do the same :-)?

If you do some searches on the company, the reviews don't seem so great:

it doesn't make your transfer speed any faster, period, it merely replaces images with highly compressed (poor quality) ones that you can click something to get the real one displayed.

I agree - it is like Internet Snake Oil. It came out in 2004 or so, and most the discussion of it you can find through googling is quite old. Amazon list it as a product and for the platform it runs on only lists Windows versions that existed back then - they don't offer it for WIndows Vista or Windows 7. Don't waste your money with "OnSpeed". All it does is compress the data you receive and the less stuff going to your browser, the "faster" it looks. I tried this years ago and it was total crap. Still is. [B]If[/B] you're on a dial-up connection, it might [U]look[/U] like it's doing [I]something[/I] "useful". There are some ways to squeeze a bit more performance out of your broadband connection. Use a different DNS from what you currently have from your ISP (like [B]GoogleDNS[/B] or [B]OpenDNS[/B] - both free). Use a better browser (like [B]PaleMoon[/B] and the 64-bit version if your operating system can handle it). Run a DNS benchmark programme to find which servers are the fastest for where you are and change your settings accordingly. [B]NameBench[/B] is pretty good. There are posts here from the past addressing this. (Search the archives for "internet speed", or similar.)
