I'm really warming to veggies, although I would not call myself a vegan by any means. Still,l I have lost weight by concentrating on eating well and am feeling better for it.Do you know any great Vegetarian restaurants in Bali?I am staying in Kuta this time - and will probably get around on foot and taxi. (Have just returned to Oz after 4 weeks there and got fed up to the back teeth of being pulled over by the 'boys with the outstretched hands' in my car - I've had 30 years of traveling to Bali but have never been pulled over as much as last trip!) Thanks in advance dear people! :icon_biggrin:

Oh, I forgot Aroma's Cafe on jalan Legian, between jalan Melasti and jalan Benesari. Great food but a little more expensive.

I'm also no vegetarian but I very often eat food without meat, you could literally enter any nasi campur place and choose rice, vegetables, potatoes, Fish (?) and egg....I like it very much!!

I CRAVE fruit and veggies, I really do. I wish there were lovely things to eat without all the carbs (rice potatoes and noodles). I don't mind brown rice but I have never found it in Indonesia - in a restaurant setting at least. Thanks for your kind response, I really am appreciating the welcoming nature of the forum and the members therein :)

BKT...you tried the Japanese restaurant in Lovina? in that 'street' where Zurich is..went there last week...and I was pleasantly surprised by their menu.Tasted good.

I think I read about that place in the Lovina newsletter, the owner is Chinese but he's been living in Japan and the US for the last 20 years. Thanks for the tip, not a big fan of Sushi myself but the wife likes it.

We love Japanese and have been there a couple of times now - seyu, next door to Jasmine Kitchen. The food is pretty good and I think reasonably priced. Kunti in Kuta is nice and great value. Ryoshi is not that great in my opinion. There looks like a good place (but expensive) in Ubud which I have yet to try.

Ron, there is something wrong with that link to the Lovina pages. When I try it, it asks me to sign up and guarantee I am over 18 as it has "inappropriate content" when I try, it causes my computer to freeze and I can not shut it down. Seems dodgy.

Sorry about that. Obviously, I seemed to have an account. Here is an alternative linkBali article -that gives the same text, but in a less fancy formatting.

I'll have to try that Sushi place very soonNot to go too far off topic, Loving Hut is another place that might interest the OP, I went to the one in Singaraja today. I wasn't aware it was a vegan restaurant until I sat down. Lack of options and the fact that it was clean are the only reason I stayed. They have one in Denpasar also, just google Loving Hut

I remember seeing Loving Hut in Singapore on a visa run and then found it very strange when I saw a few days later a store in Singaraja. Anyway we went there once and the AC wasn't working so it was hot. We were starving and it seemed to take forever for our food to come. We were the only customers in the shop. The dishes are ordinary things that you find in a restaurant but without meat. The food wasn't bad just a little different from what we are used to. The people however were very nice but it just seemed so out of place and I wonder if they will be able to make a successful business there.

It seems that more and more, you can find excellent vegetarian food in Ubud.Among the places where I have enjoyed flavourful vegetarian food:- Melting Wok, Jl. Gootama - simple menu, and the veggie dishes are incredible; more a southeast Asian flavour- Juice Ja, Jl. Dewa Sita - many excellent vegetarian choices, including what is personally my favourite nasi campur and vegetarian quesadilla Asian style!- Warung Little India, Jl. Hanoman - Indian food unlike what I've had before, very tasty though a little more around to 50,000 Rp range for an entree- Kue, Jl. Raya Ubud (and now in Penestanan for - so far - just their baked goods) - great bakery with some nice vegetarian dishes- Cafe Bingtang, Jl. Suweta - Japanese food minus the sushi; try the cold soumen with tempura veggies - delightful and fresh- Dewa Warung, Jl. Gootama - an inexpensive local food staple with delicious tofu in tomato sauce with coconut spinach- Taco Casa, Jl. Pengosekan - If you want something cheesy, the cheesy quesadilla is very satisfying- Pizza Bagus, Jl. Raya Pengosekan - In the pizza department, I really enjoy their spicy pizza messicanaI have heard that Little K is a place to try for raw vegan food though I haven't made it there yet.And if you're looking to explore vegan cuisine and cooking, there's a fairly new website called the Flaming Vegan that is worth checking out.
