Wow! I somehow doubt when balinese tell me "this woman is 115 years old" and that they can prove it. In rural areas they get in a very young age children sometimes with 16, 17 years. that means with 36 you could be already grandfather. I don't know the age of your buddy but balinese even have a different calendar and sometimes I've the feeling they are getting confused with the numbers :icon_wink: great picture though!

there is an old muslim fella up near Kerta Gosa who is said to be about 128 years old. his wife is a spring chicken in her 70's. i have heard that as you age your body shrinks but your ears grow. well, this mans ears are nearly bigger than his head, so if that IS true, i can believe he is as old as they say he is.

Great pictures and stories but I'm sorry I just don't really believe these numbers. Most Balinese above the age of 70 don't really know their actual age in terms of our calendar as it wasn't really used when they were born. Plus Balinese having basically three birthdays a year (two on the Balinese calendar and one on our calendar) makes things even more confusing. I don't doubt that these people are very old, but well into their 100s I'm a bit skeptical.

and taken into account the expected lifespan of people living in a desa, I agree with calitobali..Old-yes, a 100-no.

I know people age differently but I find it a little hard to believe this guy is over 100. My Granny-in-law is at a ripe old age of 89 and looks a lot older than this guy.

As I said before I just don't believe this tales about "he is 125 years old" but 100 years? Yes easily!

But Nigella doesn't smoke :icon_mrgreen:!!!
Sorry, but I beg to differ. :icon_wink:This woman is 51 years old. Her name is Nigella Lawson. She is a chef. She smokes, drinks alcohol and eats meat, butter, and desserts which are considered to be "very unhealthy". 1http://img.izismile.com/img/img4/20111031/640/greetings_to_vegetarians_640_01.jpg[/IMG]
Greetings to Vegetarians (24 pics) - Izismile.com

In the "guess-my-age" scenarios that some local people occasionally start, I scrub up pretty good."Wow - more you old than my papa."(Probably just being "nice" to another old expat fart, but one who still washes regularly.)I look forward to seeing Nigella when she gets to my age, (if I'm still alive). What's her "secret"?:love_heart:

What's her "secret"?:love_heart:
Well she is from England, my bum gets more sunshine than England so that could be a factor lol. She denies ever having botox even though close up pics show puffiness and no signs of wrinkles, not even small ones. A little suspicious. I was out with friends one night a one of them brought up why European men age more slowly than the women. To be honest I'd never noticed before until now.

It must be remembered that the Pawukon Calender only has 210 days in it.Therefore someone who is 80 year old by the 12 month lunar calendar would be 139 under the Pawukon Calendar. The Pawukon Calendar is indigenous to the Balinese folk. I have been told that it is based on the cycle of rice crops. However I have been both wrong and known to tell lies before today.

lol no partying for Granny, maybe it was the 8 kids she had or the fact that she starting working at 7 years old. She's still hanging in there though, even after two strokes.

Sorry, but I beg to differ. :icon_wink:I agree with you, matsaleh. I also have been smoking, drinking alcohol, eating meat, butter and desserts, PLUS doing drugs, all my life, and I am still in pretty good shape for a 45 old man...
