My wife is indonesian, iam australian. Our first son was born in medan, wich we then went thru the process of aquiring the afidavit needed for mixed mrriage kids. This process couldnt be done in Medan with no explanation given(to hard basket maybe for medan imigrasi?) and had to be done in the jakarta imigration dep....never understood why,but just went with it.Now our second son was born here in Bali recently and we are also living here in Bali. Can this process be done here in Bali or again,do we have to go to Jakarta and complete the afidavit process for our son??Has anybody out there completed this process here in Bali?Any info would be great.

congrats with the recently born son..
what do you mean with "an afidavit" for your second son?

thanks gilbert...
the afidavit is needed for mixed marriage kids who become duel citizens of indonesia.Automatically our kids become indonesian after the new laws passed on 2006...before mixed marriage kids had to have KITAS for there kids if remaining in indo. So,the new law allows our kids to get this afidavit, wich then gets stapled into the foriegn passport. This allows the child to come and go in/out of indonesia on this passport. Then once the child reaches 18 yrs old,he then has 3 more years to finalize there choice of citizenship...in my case, they will choose either indo or aussie...then once there 21st birthday comes along they must only hold one passport. The afidavit i guess is just a way that the imigration dep can monitor the mixed marriage kids, also as register i guess....

you're welcome..
yeah, I know about the rules/laws for mixed marriage kids..the double nationality etcetc..
why over complicate something easy...you have the birthcertificate, with this you might already have went to the kecamatan/catatan sipil to register the kid and have him written on the kartu keluarga? If you did then you can just apply for a indonesian passport at your local kantor imigrasi for your son.
no need to involve Jakarta.
maybe another member with a recently born baby has some more insight as to what they did and how.
but the above is what I would do (when 21 y.o. the time to choose, he would hold two passports..he can 'choose' the indo nationality for the Indo authorities, without giving up his australian passport)

My son was born in Indonesia, I registered his birth with the British consulate in Sanur [I'm British ]. Got him a British passport. Then got the little paper [dual nationality] insert from immigration in Singaraja. I seem to remember it all being quite simple, especially getting the dual nationality.

My little one has 2 passports....an ozzie one and an indo one that we applied for at the consulate in Perth. No problems at all.
Gilbert is right, dont over complicate it, when the kids turn 18, let them decide..

agree it does sound like over complicating it!
we have all the above and also indo passport is on the way, also the aussie passport is on the way.Officially you are required to register youre mixed marriage child to imigration and recieve the afidavit, wich then is attached to youre kids passport.People say, just use the indonesian passport to leave indo, then the aussie passport to travel...then the indo passport to return to country etc etc....last time we entered indonesia from our trip in australia, the imigrasi officer specifically asked to see the afidavit for our first son..we had it,so no problem....so it is an official requirment to do this process, wich i try and always abide where i can..where possible!
its an easy process,i just dont want to have to go to jakarta again to complete it....
