If you are on a tourist visa, I guess you need a local to be the "owner" of the bike, and then the insurance would be in the name of the owner - but I don't think there would be any problems. Of course, when making a claim, you would need a signature from the owner.

I'm interested in knowing about about bike insurance too. Used Phantom, 2008. Finally paid deposit on my bike & should have it within days - YAY!!!

are you using finance or gonna pay the whole amount at once?if using finance, and thus pay per month an x amount..then within this payment there's insurance included.if you buy and pay the price in one time, there's no insurance included in that, but the place where you have bought that bike..can arrange insurance for you. As a matter of fact they will be glad to do so, since the get some kind of one time commision for it.in your case Latah, you can go to your bank..BCA or any other, and bring the BPKB and STNK of the bike and take an insurance out on that bike.

I will have to look in to that Gilbert because when I paid for my bike in full, I couldn't get insurance. If I was paying the bike off I could get insurance for the paying of the bike not repair of the bike. I know you can get insurance on a Harley but standard bike?

as far as i know..if one buys a 'normal' bike like yamaha jupiter (and the likes) using finance...damages are also included and theft too. I bought one for my GF a year ago, paid in cash and asked for insurance on the bike...had to wait almost 2 months for the BPKB to be ready, but when the BPKB came out, the dealer hooked me up with an insurance.so maybe it's depending on the dealer?

No need for insurance....in Indonesia, if you have an accident with a car, the car always pays (cash) if you are on a motor....that is if you aren't dead.....if you were to hit a person they would also expect cash, and probably a ride to the hospital on top of that........

I am not sure that you are right. When the locals on their Honda Verios drive into my car, while it is stationary at traffic lights, they don't hang around asking for money. They vanish into the crowd of bikes as fast as possible, weaving so you can't read their number plate! So there must be some reason they are keen to disappear. As for bike insurance, my Indonesian mate paid paid 4% (Rp 600,000/year) of the value of a brand new bike, and that covers the bike being stolen, accident with and without injuries. But he has to pay the first Rp 700,000 of damage, but gets 20% discount if he doesn't make a claim in a year. He didn't use finance, as the cost of the interest re-payments were so high. Our car insurance is 2.5% of the value, and we have to pay the first 1.8 million of any damage (a wing mirror costs 2 million to replace I discovered!). I expect some people can get cheaper, but it is a case of checking the small print and asking around.Barekarma
